went to take the d14 down the drive way and couldn't get it stopped.  decided to see what was up.  as you can see it looks like I gotta replace a seal and brakes.  ahh the good times of farming, guess the neighbor was right, farming is easy and cheap!!!Angry

while I was pulling the final drive out, I was going nice and slow and expecting something to go wrong, things were going to easy.  I was just about past the threads on the studs and all of a sudden there was this loud noise, I froze up, couldn't move, what was that....air compressor kicked on, just about gave me a heart attack!!!

back to the brakes, I was able to clean the shoes with some acetone and bake them on my wood pellet stove to get the grease out (should be good for another year any way, (finances don't permit getting them now).  It almost looks like it has a double seal?  I noticed they have different seals for serial number 19001 and lower.  my tractor is a 1960 so it's past that serial number.  guess I'll find out at the bearing shop this morning.  I can read the number on the seal so hopefully it's an easy find, unlike the 5020!!!!  The little 5020 has be a bit gun shy when I have to get parts.  ain't no fun going to a parts store, asking about a part and they look at ya like ya 3 heads!

I'm just hoping to make it through a few projects I need the machine for and by then I should have enough saved up to put new brakes on.  I cooked them on the pellet stove until no oil came out of them..  Now I'm not sure I put the axle seals in the right direction, so I might be doing this again sooner than I thoughtAngry  The good thing about the d14 is the engine holds ya back when going down a hill (one of the reasons I was looking for a d series), that should help save the brakes.

well the Allis Fleet is back together and working.  Finally!!!  next time I remove the floor boards on the d14.  the bolts for it that hand down from the final drive kept getting hung up on the floor board, keeping the final drive from going in.  but feels good to have the 5020 and the d14 back.   thanks for all the replies, dt

Don't put it back together with the old oil soaked linings. The lingings are very cheap. I bought mine through the agco dealer. I'd like to say it cost like 30 dollars. That come with the rivets. I know you say money is tight. I never religned a set before either but it was very easy to do. I borrowed a neighbors riveter but you can do it with a couple punches and a helper

it's been about a week and I've tilled up 3 gardens, took the brush hog for a drive, drove up the steep upper pasture road and so far the brakes have been good and stop great.  so I must of cooked most of the oil out of the shoes.
