 Topic: D-12 identification by serial #

Hi all! I am attempting to identify my D-12 to match parts and what not. I am having difficulty making out the serial numbers, and wanted to see if anyone here could make them out, offer ideas of how to better read, or offer enough info to get some basic info! See images attached:

Im guessing since it starts in 10 - 17xx ......... that it is a 1959 series I , D10 ?

That last figure on the Serial looks like an ‘S’; not a ‘9’. A special order, maybe?
‘D10-1769S’. A 1959 D10.

Clean the other part off of the torque tube it has a serial # on it is right by the engine serial #.
The last letter is a S pretty common on the engine #.

i am not a d series expert but isnt the number on the left the engine# and the number on the right the tractor#
wire brush and some brake clean will get the crud off so you can read it ...wire wheel on a grinder would be even better

As you have a engine starting with 10 it is most likely and early model, unless the engine has been swapped. Clean the area on the torque tube to read the tractor serial number better. I do see 12 at the beginning of the tractor serial number, the rest hidden.

Yeah, from what I've seen, the D-10 and 12 are the same except for a wider adjustment on the D-12. I'll use a wire brush in a hope to knock some of that crap off tonight and see if I can't get a better photo. Just to be clear though, the "Torque tube" is the section on the right in the photos correct?
For reference, the left of the photo is towards the tractor body, the right of the photo is towards the front of the tractor. Everything I've seen says that the numbers are "on the left" but this is found on the "passenger" side of the tractor so to speak, which to me would be on the right side of the tractor. Is "on the left" if you are on the tractor looking forward or if you are looking at the front of the tractor?
Are there any other locations for these numbers other than where the engine meets the body as shown above?

The serial number you have shown is on the engine. 10- xxx means that it is a 138 cu.in engine. People get confused because this engine could be in a D-10 or D-12. The tractor serial number is on the torque tube just behind it.

Chris, i think your looking at the photo wrong... your motor is on the left and the torque tube is on the right.. You can see the air cleaner in the photo far left... This is the "drivers" side or LEFT side of the tractor... As the guys said, clean the paint BEHIND the 10- 17xx number to find the D12 xxxx tractor number.
