3 years ago I bought a nice D10 series 2 with a stuck engine, with a loader and factory 3 point hitch. I’ve had the cylinders soaking with atf and acetone for over 2 years now and no sign of it freeing up. It was parked in 1990 when the owner passed, and sat covered in a barn until I bought it 3 years ago. I would really like to get that tractor going.
I have a great running C that I don’t use very much, so I wanted to ask if the engine from the C would work in the D10, it has the 149 ci engine and the C has the 125 engine.
But I don’t want to get into a big project of fabricating to make it work.
Does anyone know if the C engine would be a direct bolt in swap, or if a lot of extra work would be required to install the C engine In the D10. Or if they interchange at all. I don’t know, has anyone done a swap like this? And if so how much trouble will it be.
I’m hoping for a direct bolt in, where nothing really needs to be changed, if it’s a bigger project than that, I guess I will have to wait till I can afford to rebuild the 149 engine.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t mind the loss of horsepower, I would just like to have the 3 point hitch, the loader, and live hydraulics and pto.
Thanks

IF it sat covered in a barn, it shouldn't be seized that bad.  I bought a D14 that sat outside for 15 years in all weather and had some movement in 4 months using ATF and acetone.  I removed the head and oil pan and put some cardboard on the floor, then filled each cylinder.  When I saw drips on the cardboard, I took the engine out and turned it upside down.  Then soaked it from the bottom.
After a couple of months of that, I gave it to my rebuilder and he was able to take the engine apart without wrecking anything.  Buy a major overhaul kit with new sleeves and pistons and you are ready to go.

Hi just thinking it might be the bolts that hold the loader on are in too far and are hitting the fly wheel ? I had this hapen to me on a C do not know if the D10 mounting points are the same as the C. hope you can get something sorted out .

I have never done the 125 into a D10/12 although I have put the 149 & 160 engines into a CA. The C engine will go into your D10. However that will be no hole for the Power Steering or engine driven hydraulic pump if you have one. You will need to use the D10 flywheel and clutch. The thermostat housing is different on the C engine and if you can find a plug for the temperature gauge, you won't need a hole in the hood, but the there is no place in the C engine head for a temperature gauge like the D10 engine. The radiator connections will line up with the C engine. Somewhere in the D10/12 production the front engine studs that hold the front axle went from 1/2" to 5/8". if your D10 has the 1/2" bolts you'll be ok there.

I have a running engine out of an early D10 available. I can't say positively weather it is a 138 or has the bigger 149 pistons.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

You have head off ,

If it was a running tractor and loader was not installed on tractor while it was parked   bolts into flywheel are not problem .
