i have a d 17 series 4 diesel with the front oil seal leaking on the engine do i have to take the whole engine out to change it or and i just take the front end apart?

If your carefull and take your time you can remove the front bolster to acces the engine front end. Pull the crank pulley and pry out the oil seal with your prefered method. Watch out for a wear groove where the seal rides. You may need a wear sleeve.
