Getting ready to put mine back on . Have a new gasket and 4 rubber grommets . My metal washers are mismatched and a couple are concave . I'm thinking someone overtightened the nuts causing this ? Sound right to you fellas ? Also wonder what the torque spec should be ? Can't find it in my book . Thanks !!

I doubt you will find a torque. Its a feel thing. You are compressing a thick gasket. Tighten down enough to squeeze the gasket some, if it seeps, tighten a bit more. This can be done several times over the life of the gasket if you don't get carried away tightening the first time. That's my method, others may do different.

Yeah Jim it's a very thick gasket . I'll just snug it up and see how it goes . May try 10 lbs . That's my torque wrench lowest setting . Thank you !!

Don't even use a torque wrench.  Make sure your valve cover is perfectly straight before you put it on.  Just put a slight bit of pressure on each nut and use the tractor normally.  Tighten them down until it does not weep any more with use.
