    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 at 7:50am
I have A D15 II gas model with a L200 loader and was bush hogging when the tractor and pto stopped moving but the engine was still running. is this the main clutch or the power director clutch? I have researched re-shimming the power director in place and is possible to do but is time consuming. Any idea where to get shims or can I make them out of shim stock?  Also, if I need to split the  tractor,  can I leave the loader on the front and unbolt the loader frame from the rear axle then split or will this end up in disaster? Sorry about all the questions but I am new to the forum and tractors.

Thanks to PaulB for getting me on the right forum and his advice!

No authority here on these but it seems that on 2 speed PD like 15_17_19 you don't add or remove shims...you take them from one side and put in the other. Someone else will know for sure.

welcome to the forum.
If the pto stopped to. It wouldn’t be the power director

Thanks for the information. sounds like I'm splitting the tractor.  Any suggestions on removing the loader first before splitting the tractor aside from supporting both the front and rear? I'm kinda worried about the loader still being attached.

I split my D-14 last month....
I removed the loader frame... LESS stuff in your way the better !
I'd find a level place outside, remove bucket/loader assy, then remove the loader 'frame' sections. Mine has a bar over the gas tank, so no bar = easier tank removal.
As for splitting the tractor....
I have an I beam and 2 trolleys/chain hoists, so I parked the tractor underneath, lengthwise under the beam.
Used 6by6 blocks between steering stuff  at tierod end to PREVENT front wheels from turning.
Drain some coolant as temp sender needs to come out....
Put solid blocking under belly of back 1/2, 2by4s for tire chocks
removed engine covers, center piece, gas tank, battery, battery tray
undid wires to coil,starter,lights, etc.
unbolted 'side frame plates'
undid and slid the steering shaft 'bushing' ,inside left side frame plate
used coathange to hold steering shaft up to let it pass through front hole
secured engine to 1 chainhoist, back half to other chainhoist
secured 'wishbone' to engine/hoist,undo the 2 bolts on the rear WB support...
undid the 5 bolts holding engine to bellhousing
adjust hoists as needed, we used SMALL prybars, each side to  'break' engine half 'free'
with helper, rolled engine half away from back half

go slow, confirm steering shaft passes through the hole !
'assembly is the reverse'..... mor eor less....
be SURE both halves are LINED up....
I used longer engine to bellhousing bolts to slowly, evenly 'draw' the enhine onto the bell housing...
will have to turn inputshaft to mate with clutch splines
I used a 3/4" copper water pipe as my 'clutch alignment tool' cause I couldn't find the real plastic, 10 tooth one (same as old GM trannies BTW....)

that's most of what I remember
I 'booked' a day to do the 'replace ringgear' job... slow ,steady, tried to think aheda..

it allows to shift gears, stops tractor movement ,stops PTO, does not allow 3 point to raise and lower when pushed in.

Thanks Jay,
It sounds like all went well. I hope mine will go the same. I will go slow as needed and keep an eye on all of it.

Before you spend all the time to split the tractor, adjust the foot clutch pedal so there is "free-play" in the pedal. That might be all that is wrong....adjustment.

You leave that Power Director clutch alone. I am 99% sure there's not a problem with the hand clutch. Fix the foot clutch.
