First I would like to say Hello and thanks for having me. I didnt see welcome Forum so here I am.
This past summer I found a 1957 Allis Chalmers D14. Everything seems to work fine (for its age) but I went to move snow with it and I couldn't get both tires to have power. Only the right side would drive and it would just spin in the snow and no movement of the tractor.
I played with the traction boost lever , witch is what the original owner said to do and no luck. Any help would be great and thanks.

You probably need rear chains !!! and make sure you have the hand clutch lever FULLY FORWARD or FULLY REARWARD not in the middle.

Do you have fluid in the tire that doesn't spin? Usually if one tire doesn't have fluid and the other has, it's the wheel without the weight in it that will spin. Taking fluid out of the old D17 made the tractor next to worthless because of not having enough weight to pull like it did when it had calcium chloride in them.
Other thought is, is one brake dragging?

Like the good Dr. said - you probably need chains on both rear wheels.
Frozen turf, packed snow, or a plain old icey surface all provide little traction for a tractor without chains.
Regarding the one wheel spinning, farm tractors do not have any sort of 'positive traction' or 'limited slip differential' like a pick-up truck might have.
You can create your own 'limited slip' differential by gradually applying the brake to the wheel that is spinning.
You won't believe the difference a good set of chains can make.
I have a D-12 Series III with a 7 1/2 ft Meyers Snow Blade.
With plenty of weight on a 3pt rear carrier, I can stall out the engine pushing a shxt load of snow in 2nd gear and not loose traction.

Annnnd without chains, you could spin into a ditch or rut and tip.... make for a bad day.

the traction booster lever is no help to your problem, you do have to mess with it. none of the D series Tractors have a differential lock, so only one tire will spin (which ever tire has the least resistance acting against it) the best thing you can do is slowly apply the brake on the tire that is spinning, this will force the other tire to move. (if the other tire never moves you may have something broken)

Thanks Guys....I know I need chains and will start looking for a set. I didnt know I cant "lock" the rear end, or no "posi". I will try the break trick net time I go north, the tractor is about 4 hours north of me at camp.

if your taking photos with a cell phone, they normally take something like 5000 x 3000 pixels of several megabites.......... to post here you need the size to be about 800 x 600 or a little smaller and in the 100 Kilobite range........... you can resize on the computer using PAINT or similar program..... its a little harder on cell phone... cut your resolution way down... you dont need that high.

Nice looking tractor and loader... Looks like a 3 point hitch arm sticking out in back ? You might want to add 400 pounds of weights in the back to counter balance the loader / bucket...... A 55 gallon barrel with a cross bar thru it and several bags of concrete inside would work.... or better yet, but a BLADE for the back !

JC...the tire that spins has no fluid...I need to repair the rim so I put a temp rim on it.
I will put some weight on the back ....this tractor has a lot of bugs in it and I hope to make it through the winter.
If I ever have it my way it will get tires that have some "good" life left in them ,a good set of lights that look old and the exhaust about a foot or so taller so I dont breath the fumes so much. everything else should be fine.

if you need rears... look for 26" COMBINE rims/tires ! pretty sure they're 8 on 8 ( 8 bolt on 8" circle ).
While a little late for 'fall fairs' but I scored a pair after a 'combine demo derby'... real cheap.... I bought a Gleaner A cause it's fronts were the same size as my D-14 rears. Fully working gleaner, still have 2 jars of oats here from 6 years ago. I gave it to Ron b as a birthday present when he turned 79....

Gary farm tractors do have diff lock. Unfortunately Allis did not till later. MF had diff lock on their MF35 in early 60's and hi and lo range for transmission. Allis was a bit late on some of the stuff and a leader in other areas.  And it was a diff lock not limited slip as in automotive.

Tractors are almost completely useless in snow without chains. Get yourself weight and chains and you’ll do much better. Welcome to the forum

Gary, Your D14 is a sister to mine. I plowed snow with mine for the first time this year. ( I bought it specifically for snow plowing with the front blade) You have a scoop, might be heavier? Anyway I have loaded rear tires with pretty good tread. And I bought A set of chains with it that I really did not look at till a couple weeks ago. I lucked out the chanis are not worn at all and are more agressive than road version. (look for the more agressive type chain) Not sure what a set of chains cost? Like everything probably a new set is not cheap.
To me it is easier to plow with the front loader than a rear blade. I am getting to old to turn around as easy. And I like the ability to push snow up and over frozen piles too. I think you did good on your tractor. Just needs some items to work better for the job. Someone mentioned a helpless D17. Yes I did that for pulling and it did not do good at all with empty tires and no chains. Regards, Chris

truck chains will work on a smaller tractor... you can connect 2 together to get the right length.. the problem is the WIDTH.. Most pickup trucks will have chains about 12 inches wide to go over a 10 inch wide tire and set on the side wall... Tractor chains need to be 18- 24 inches wide for 13.6 - 14.9 tires ............ guess you could cut and weld and make them wider also, for the right price.

Folks, Yikes, on the price of new chains! Maybe I did get reasobably value on the tractor rig, If I subtract the chains, loader, blade, bucket and the set of 2 bottom plows. Hope the OP gets the D14 going to plow snow. Should be a good unit! Regards, Chris |

So I found a set of chains...they are 26 wide 140 long...is this a close fit? They are stock tires .. but I canr remember the size. Thanks

26 x 140 is to long. According to Laclede's website you need 23.66 x 115.3 for a 13.6 by 26 tire. Not saying you can't shorten and let the cross links wrap around further if the price is right. https://lacledechain.com/traction-stock/0858/?t=tractors&step=2&v1=13.6&v3=26
