These snap coupler cultivators started off as 4 row 30" spacing. Set for standard row crop tractor, not a high clearance tractor.

and EVERYTHING was FROZEN !

4 hours of work and we got them all flex joints moving and wheels etc greased. and set to 38"

these top photos are of sunflowers field that started off great but no rain stunted them to a point were I will most likely disc them in and plant turnips in July.

Looks like you got those cultivators working and doing a good job. Reminds me of my youth and spending many happy days cultivating corn and soy beans with two row cultivators on a WD; 30 in. rows no less. Had a good tan back then too.

glad I am not making a living doing this.

But reminds me of cultivating as a kid.

can't wait for the harvest!

if get any that is. :-(

Crows put a hurting on seeds,
three weeks of no rain and
deer eating at it
"even now at shin high"

My hope it to harvest enough to adequately fill all 4 seed hoppers on tge planter next year as I had to plant corn only using 2 of the 4 hoppers of tge planter.
I had to scounge to find heirloom seed corn.

Wonderful photos, thanks for sharing. Your AC D17? high crop tractor looks to be in great shape.
Wildlife feeding on crops can be brutal. Our deer seem to be birthing lots more twins. So I have taken up deer hunting & doing my own venison butchery. Bought a good electric meat grinder. Local grocery store supplies me with bacon & meat seasonings. I make our own breakfast sausage from venison(grind 4 parts venison to 1 part bacon, and add breakfast sausage seasoning to taste). Or drop the seasoning if your want plain venison burger meat for chili, spaghetti, doctored-up grill burger(egg, onions,Old Bay,BBQ sauce,Horseradish, salt, pepper).  Wife hates taste the wild venison. So I got creative. Here in Illinois, our archery deer season begins October 1st and last thru Jan 14. So there is ample time to hunt. Also have a Savage 20 gauge slug rifle for deer firearm weekends. It's incredible. It's scope easily allows a fatal hit at 150-200 yds. Illinois 40 acre landowner deer permits are allocated at 2 per household person. So for archery, I get 2, and my wife gets 2. For firearms, I get 2, and my wife gets 2. So we're hunting 8 permits each year. The deer are my new beef cattle and the best part is I don't have to chore them everyday.

Also try planting alfalfa on the 50' strips next to woods. Deer, quail, pheasants, turkeys rabbits all prefer the protein from alfalfa over row crops.  Since I planted my alfalfa, my row crop damage has decreased. Bale the alfalfa, grind it, spread ground fines across row crop field. Or, add grounds to your planter dry fertilizer bins to place it by crop row. Its about a 3-1-2(NPK) fertilizer value with no salts, so soil ph stays good.  Soybean meal is another no salt 7-1.5-1 (NPK) fertilizer and will also flow thru planter dry fertilizer bins.

Thanks for the GREAT INFO on food plots

I have read a considerable amount on this subject but you guys get right down to brass tacks. I really appreciate that.

The tractor in these photos is a D15 diesel that I restored 10 years ago. Was just waiting to move back to the farm to put it to work.... It is perfect for cultivating. I have tedded and raked with it also. Not perfect for hay making but it steers fantastic and it makes the neighbors look at me funny. Like, what is that ??? Ha ha !

Believe it or not there are still places in this world where cultivating is the norm.  Central NE on center pivot corn.  Has to reduce by some small amount the total reliance on chemicals.  Who knows the long-term effects they have on humans as well as environment.  Just some food for thought.  It certainly helps if the weeds have been targeted by previous generations.

Both of the farmers I worked for decades ago, said the best stands/yields came off of fields that were cultivated. Some years, we didn’t get to all the fields before the corn got too tall. Atrazine, Lasso, and Bladex were the herbicides of the day. If I recall, Lasso & Bladex was applied if no carry-over was needed. Lasso & Atrazine was applied if corn after corn.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

38" rows was what planter I borrowed was set at...

While we are speaking of row spacing.
What is a typical 2 row mounted picker ?

Also, thanks for info on Chemicals.
I have some atrazine on order. It's only 4% so not sure how it will work. Was the only Atrazine I could find.

Dual+ Calisto+ Amerzone will save a lot of headaches.   Might want to double check but off the top of my head that’s what we used on our NGMO corn.  Plus if you go to 30” rows you will canopy quicker and shade out weeds sooner.  Grown some NGMO corn the last 3 years beans as clean as any traited corn around.
