I live in southwestern Illinois, about 65 miles northeast of St. Louis.  Had a reason to take a drive through the country yesterday.  Saw 1 farmer planting beans.  Nothing else moving.  We're cool & soggy.  High today was 54.  Did not see any soybeans up although I know there are some planted in that area.  The corn I saw is tiny and yellow.  Looks like some replanting will be necessary where the drown out spots are.  The newspaper said we're 68% planted on corn and 43% on beans.  Doesn't look like a bumper crop in this early.  Rain is forecast through the weekend.  But it's still early.  Plenty of time for replant.  How's it look in your area?

got frost bit corn' an getting 4' to 5' in' of rain tonight an  the next night. don't look good.   been in the 20's an 30's at night.

We have had temps as low as 19 in parts of Southern Michigan. Fruit and Vegetable growers are very concerned as the next few days will show how badly hit the crops are. Corn and Soybeans most weren't out of the ground but many farmers are close or done planting. Next few days welcome rain and temps near 70!

Had been told years ago to stop planting Beans as Oak leaves got bigger than Squirrel Ears, if they are not in yet likely will not be in by June and Insurance won't cover as planted after then. Ground is too soggy, fields are mostly a mess but some managed to get corn down and wheat looks great at over a foot tall some already heading up.

I would say that here in central Ia. corn is probably 98% planted. Conditions have been great. If it's not in the ground they are not trying or are just too big! Most of the beans are planted, a few still have some to do. Rain yesterday and today, much needed. We went from soggy early to pretty darn dry. Some of my corn got nipped be the frost Friday night, seems to have come through but probably set back a couple of weeks.

We're all done with corn.  Only got about 10% of the beans in.  Rained today and my gauge has .4" in it.

Rained for quite a while yesterday, two tenths of an inch! Raining at about the same rate today. I'll take it but an inch or two would be nice!

Why is it when it's dry you get a tenth or two and when it's wet you get three inchs.... every other day?

I know. Think it would be nice to have an 'average' year sometime. You know, it starts to get a little dry, you get an all day soaker of an inch or so. Guess I must really be a farmer now, whining about the weather.

I agree this farming thing is getting harder as we get older. Our local ethanol plant shut down and is buying out of its summer contracts and stopped posting bids for for fall delivery. Most of the local elevators were hauling corn there also. So now local farmers are sitting with corn left in bins and this years crop in the ground with hopes of a good yield, planting conditions were good around here this year. I had read somewhere that when we had a bumper crop and some other factors years ago it took over 3 years to straighten out, pick and roll years I believe, but with this mess if we have an above average crop in the US this year I think it may take longer.
