Topic: Cracked inner wheels on D14Posted: 27 Nov 2011 at 2:56pm |

Both of the rear inner wheels of my D14 have cracks going from the square holes to the inside mounting holes. There has been what looks like many attempts to weld them. They have just cracked again beside the welds. I suspect they have cracked because the 14.9" tires are loaded and quite heavy. All that weight spinning around must put a lot of strain on the stamped steel wheel. Can you still get new wheels? Or is there a good way to fix these rims? |

There should be plenty of used centers around, I have a set but probably too far away from you.

Fawcett's may have good used centers or know where to get some. I have a parts D-15 II that may yield a good pair of centers if you are not in a hurry. PM me

I got one from Fawcetts a few years back as well. Even had good original paint on it!

Mine were cracked too, I was told that the model 82 side mower's vibration cracks them.

John, I see you are quite a ways from Windsor. Fawcetts is near St Marys, northeast of London.

I doubt it was caused by the weighted tires. There are LOTS of Allis's out there with fluid in the tires. I would suspect somebody didn't keep the eccentrics tight and the shifting caused excess strain on the wheel. ???????? |
