Not Allis but over on the yesterdays tractors site there is a hi-crop M Farmall for sale that says it was for a cotton stripper. Has 5 reverse gears and one forward. Just thought it was kind of interesting. Anybody know if there were Farmall cotton strippers? Bet Creston does.

The 5 reverse/1 forward gear is simple. Just put the differential assembly in upside down so the ring gear is on the other side.

I took this picture at Farmall Land ,in Ia. Son and I took my Dad out there about 10 years . I grew up on Farmalls .

I seem to remember those used a drop box final drive like a D17, and that is what reverses the gears direction.

The picture Fred shows there are no drop boxes. There were MV tractors that had a drop box on the final drives. Just installing the differential in backwards is all that is needs to change from 5F-1R to 1F-5R to work for a cotten stripper or picker. We did that to a M rear in a modified years ago when we changed the transmission part of the M to driving in the bottom shaft with doubled up 2nd gears behind a blown/injected 440 with an automatic

That’s pretty cool. Never seen one in person, but probably because it’s a cotton picker and we live in cotton stripper country.
I believe there is a video of some of those machines working on YouTube .

We also stopped by Griswold ,Iowa this was in a IH collection there . Then we stopped by John Bierbaum Allis Chalmers Museum . Got a good 2 for one stop. there .

I-H made cotton pickers and strippers. Here are some pics of some pickers from a nearby IH show. They had several pickers at the show.     Prototype B. Suppose to be only 1 made but my friends from N.Alabama said they knew of one near where they lived. The other was an H. I was told by some IH collector friends that the gear shift could be placed in the covered hole to the left of the shifter for direction changes. My uncle has a Picker on a 200 farmall at his place in Iowa. It's a neat little machine.

The made Cotton pickers with drop boxes and without. The cotton pickers had gear driven gear boxes. The high clear tractors had chain drive drop boxes,

while those machines may look crude and awkward,you have to remember from where they came as far as harvesting goes. Beat the HECK out of a bag over your shoulder.

I had part of a cotton picker one time that was built from a D17 they run backwards,had a reverser so it had 4 forward and 4 reverse gears.Came from Eastern NC they were pretty common at one time.

Not that I have been around cotton pickers other than a in the "experienced  tractor parts" place I use to visit often. Out here 100% pickers but about all red or green but this was a ALL COLORS place that had ag, industrial,and construction but never any AC cotton pickers.
Also never any with the tractor driving froward like the picture here. So would agree that has to be a rare model.
