1984 gleaner n6 concave door need help trying to latch it closed . I have read that they are a pain.

Was picking some corn that was layed over and got a bunch of trash in feeder house, well that kicked concave door open. I have books on machine but just don't seem helpful on the concave door.   Maybe in layman's terms someone can explain to me proper way to get it latched closed. Thanks cory

There are two hex shafts in the vicinity of the door, that the "L" shaped wrench that comes with the combine fits onto. The hex shaft towards the front is on the door hinge point, and will swing the door. Put the wrench on that shaft first, and Orientate the wrench so that you can, going clockwise, give the door a good hard slam shut. Should be a friction bolt to make the door stay shut. Then put the wrench on the other hex shaft which is buried a little deeper in the machine, and move it counter clockwise, and with a fair amount of effort, should snap the latch into the locked position. Couple things that could be awry, would be if the latch were to be seized and the door opened without unlatching the latch, and also if the friction mechanism is not in adjustment, and the door won't stay in the closed position when you switch the wrench from the door to the latch.

Our N6’s had bounce bolts in each end. I would set the concave and then snug up the nonce bolts so the door could not jump up and unhook. 7/8” deep socket for the jam nut and 1/2” square socket for the bolt.
