Is it OK to replace the metal and wooden chain tensioner wedges with flat rollers? I had some chain issues today and had some cornhead rollers laying around so i put them on and ran it. So far so good but I have to wonder why they didn't from the factory. What is the purpose of a wooden wedge.

less wear on the chain is why they had wooden wedges. when mine wore out, I replaced them with the little steel pulleys with the sides on them. not much wear cuz they turn with the chain.

When a ball bearing roller type tightener gives out, you are done until you get a new one. Wooden tighteners are not like that. They just don't lock up or fall apart like the others and they will last a long time. My L2 has poly ones that are the same shape as the wooden ones and so far so good.

I replaced all of mine like Lonn with plastic from SI Distributors
