What's involved with changing the spindle bushings on a D12? The service manual doesn't say much. Are any special tools needed? Can I expect that they will drive out with reasonable effort?

They do drive out. My D-10 was fairly easy but the replacements were too long so I had to drive it back out and cut it off. I used a large punch to remove them.

Well, so far I haven't gotten past the set screw that connects the spindle to the steering arm. It is frozen, but good. It's always fun working on things that haven't been disassembled in 55 years.

Try heating to about 400ºF, and melting some beeswax into the threads, as it cools. when cool to the touch, try loosening the locknut...
Ground hog holes around here are so bad, I have the busted spindle swap out down to about half an hour, now...
