changing my new to me 190 gas to diesel

Neighbor down the way has been trying to sale me his 190 gasser, with cab for several years. He always said he wanted me to have it but I always thought the price was high for what it needed and i just never had the extra cash. I actually posted some pics of it on here a few years ago trying to decide what it was worth. He bought it brand new and took very good care of it. Mr Berry ( the previous owner) was a small farmer and did row crop and baled hay with the 190. He actually lives across the road from where my grandfathers farm was and Mr Berry and my great uncle (the reason Im orange) ( thats me and uncle Ed on his, now my G in the little picture in the corner.) would sometimes do custom baling together . Mr Berry's 190 gasser and Uncle Eds 190xt both going.  The weather such as its been had me stuck out in the freezing rain on my cabless 190 for 2 hours feeding, and slopping in the mud. The next day I went talked to Mr Berry, I explained to him what it cost to fix these old tractors and keep em running. Told him I needed it to use and would never sale it. I knew his needed tires, exhaust manifold, throttle cable, choke cable, exhaust. etc. It hadn't been started in probably 6-8 years and hadn't been moved in 15+. I also told him that my cousin had recently offered me his 190 diesel with new tires and rebuilt diesel engine for cheap, that I would use it for parts to make this feasible.  So i apologized in advance if i was fixen to offend him and shot him an offer. To my surprise he accepted it !   I traded a rifle and a little $ to my cousin for his beat to H3LL 190 with new back tires and recently rebuilt engine, Koyker loader. The Turbo is long past shot blowing oil out the exhaust, that was the last straw for him. When it finnaly dried up enough I went and aired up the tires On Mr Berrys 190 and drug it out of the shed it had been hiding in all these years. I spent the next two afternoons messing with it. Rigged up a lawn mower tank for gas. Throttle cable was rusted and broken. Ran some bailin wire into the cab with vice grips for a handle and made a throttle cable. Carpenter string for a choke cable, cleaned the points filled up the fluids and DROVE the old girl home !!!  Man what a ride. had to stop once and refill the gas tank. only 5 miles from his place to mine, boy does the thing like the gasoline. Thats when i decided to swap in the diesel.  I now own two tractors that worked together on occasion back in the day.  Ive owned my Uncles 190xt for about 15 years bought it from him before he passed away. Ive got the gas engine out and its now in my cousins old tractor and its bolted back together Im still pulling parts off it for Mr Berrys. The diesel is in the frame and waiting on clutch kit to come in then ill be able to slide it back together, and then ill order a new turbo.  My plan is to leave it all original except the engine swap and  install a cab heater. Also going to put the Koyker loader on it as well.  Sorry for the long story.

The Jack's are very handy. I've split my B with the same set. Fully adjustable, and simple.

Looks like you are going to have a nice tractor when finished. I have put diesel engines in several low hour gas tractors(Deere 3020 and 4020's). The difference in wear makes it very worth doing. Someday I want a 190 xt as my grandfather had a brand new one. I also like the looks of the Allis cab. Thanks for posting. Tom

DiyDave the gas motor is in the parts tractor and bolted together. I thought about selling it but I figure It'll be worth more to me having it around for parts. Especially since I have have two to keep running for another 50 years.

Made by Stolper, that inward swinging bottom door half takes a bit of getting used. Could not give mine away off a Series Three so cut it off in pieces. 

In the summer I pull the pin and remove the lower door it hangs in the tractor shop. I have aftermarket steps it's a lot easier to get in and out than the horible factory step.

started it up tonight for the first time since the swap. Been slow going waiting on seals and parts also life tends to get in the way. I found a brand-new turbo online at Wal-Mart.com. 209.00 free shipping ! Seems to be fine.

I'm trying to grasp the concept of buying a turbo at WalMart. I did buy an HX35 on line several years ago. Turned out to be an A&I. And still turned out to be Chinese.

Were there any major hangups in the gas to diesel switch?

The only real hang up was running a fuel return line back to the tank. I bought some braided stainless line and AN fittings and ran one back to the tank inside the cab and dumped it in the top of the tank. I'll post some pics of how I did that also.

Probably not carried by Wal Mart, but sold by a third party through the Wal Mart web page. You can usually have the item delivered to your local Wal Mart for pickup. Wal Mart is trying to position themselves as another Amazon. Of course they get a cut of the action.

I like to look and see if the seller has their own web page. Sometimes it's available at a slightly lower price and sometimes they don't charge sales tax. Of course you get good buyer protection when purchased through Wal Mart.

I just haven't had time to get a pipe yet the muffler was on the tractor I got the engine out of. Not really much of a muffler anyway it's straight through.
