Both of mine are 1968 580ck's but same workings. 1 of mine is direct drive and 1 is converter drive. I have never used the converter drive one and only use it for parts hoe ---dont like anything thats not direct drive.
I have a bunch of books on 580's and one of them might cover the converter drive unit. I would say that some valve is stuck/sluggish making the trans not release.

ac fleet, mine is a power shuttle shift. Both brakes are on left side. Shuttle disconnect pedal on the right. There is also a switch on dash for drive or road. I think it allows to stop machine with disconnect pedal. I have all the manuals , but must have been written a college professor. Thanks Tracy

Hmmmm,---not sure the 580 has any switches,---does have both brake peddles on the right, but so does the direct drive one. Gotta remember to look at it the next time I get to the farm.
Drove a Ford 555 that had that setup, ---stomp the clutch peddle, grab trans gear you wanted, dump clutch, mash throttle peddle and go.--- to stop, let off throttle, grab reverse lever and stick it in the other direction and mash throttle again. At idle it just sat there. ---never ground any gears.
Took me a while to learn how run it not having an actual clutch !
