    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 at 9:36am
I have a 1954 allis chalmers wd45 and it seems to be run ok but when I hit a big bump and it rocks the tractor it starts shuddering and running really rough the only way i have been able to get it to run right again is to shut the tractor off through out the gas in sediment boul turn the gas back on pull the drain plug out of the carborator and let some gas drain out then after I put the plug back in the tractor will run just fine..
Does any one know what is going on? ?
The only thing I can think of is something is going on with the float but I wanted the opinion of people so i can get some pointers .
I use the tractor to mow with a 72 inche woods belly mower..

sounds like the needle valve is 'sticking' when you hit a bump. over time you'll get a buildup of 'varnish' from the gas. it's 'sticky' and when the pointy needle valve get bumped into the pointy varnishy seat they 'stick' together.
 I'd remove carb,disassemble, clean good with 'carb cleaner', and  reassemble.
Troy, #1 d-14 did that... I'd whack the side of the bowl with a hammer and it'd be fine for 2-3 more bumps......

more likely you have 'junk' in the bottom of your gas tank, and bouncing around stirs it up enough you get some of it into the sediment bowl/filter and carb. I'll bet you, if you clean your tank, your problems will go away
I am still confident of this;

my 45 did the same thing!!! Rust everywhere in the tank -----until you clean all of it out,--it will keep buggin! --- The fine rust goes thru the sedi. bowl even with a screen. mine had a filter in the line and it went thru it as well ending up in the carb.,  so major cleaning is needed.

I was having the same problem with my WD45. Cleaned the carburetor, (had crap in the bowl. Looked like little pieces of cork or rust). Put a new gasket on the sediment bowl. Run like a champ now.

I'm thinking pull the tank, plug gas outlet, add water and slosh it around a while, then drain it to see what comes out. If there's crud in the tank, it is hard to get rid of unless you get aggressive about it, and it'll drive you crazy until you get it out.

Sometimes a pressure washer will clean a tank, if it isn't too bad.

My 45 had sat for several years when I got it.
 I pulled the tank and put some nuts and bolts in it and shook it very hard.Had to do that 3 times before I got it clean.
 When you clean the carb,be sure and check the float height also.
