Tried all evening to get lifters out of MK II 3700
engine finally gave up.
They come up a little bit but then they stop like they
have a snap ring on them which I know they don't but they
must have carbon on them or something and I can't them out.
Any thoughts.

They are mushroom style lifters. You cannot pull them up and out. They go out the bottom. Leave the pushrods in each pair of lifters and wrap a stiff rubber band around two pushrods at the top squeezing them together. Reach up inside and push each lifter up a little at a time until they are both clear up. The rubber band will hold them there if done right. Pull the camshaft out. The lifters must be clear up as far as they can go.

A 3/8 down split at the bottom and short screw, screwed into split, drive into lifter, held up with cloth pins will also work.       MACK
