I bought this forklift through Craigslist this spring, and hauled it home on my gooseneck. I had a nice discussion with a D.O.T. officer in Waverly, IA. I am sure glad he was a nice guy!
The rear casting has Allis Chalmers in nice raised letters, and the sides both say Buda on them. I assume it was built in 1953 or shortly after, as that is when AC purchased Buda. I can't find an ID tag or serial number on it anywhere. It has a 4 cylinder Continental gas engine in it. It is a very smooth runner. Here are some pictures of it. Any info would be great-model number or where to look for identifying marks would be very helpful. I just wish it had 48" forks and a couple of hydraulic leaks stopped-but that will happen in time. Looked through C.H. Wendel's Book, Looks like an f or ft series lift, or perhaps a very late Buda, that somehow got an allis weight put on it. Sorry I can't help more. A picture with the hood sheet metal in place, might jar someone's memory, don't know...

Sadly, I don't have any other sheet metal for this unit. It probably disappeared at the same time the model and specification tag disappeared. Since these photos were taken I have changed the drive tires to new, pneumatic, heavy ply tires. It is much less helpless on wet grass or loose gravel. It was money well spent.

Hi Redline,
It looks very similar to mine, it's a fl I believe but it's sitting under several inches of snow right now. Mine doesn't have the BUDA on the front sides but does say Allis Chalmers on the back. It also has an overhead valve engine, which I have assumed was an AC. Mine is pretty worthless on soft or wet ground, ok around the shop and driveway. BTW, those drive shafts I got from you for my 7580 are still working great. Thanks again. |

I am glad those drive shafts are working out for you.
I bought this forklift pretty cheap and knew I would need to work on it some, but I think it has already paid for itself. I was skeptical that it would handle the seed boxes we are using these days, but it really doesn't have any trouble picking them up. The operator could use a little more practice though. |

Fortunately, I had the forklift tied down on 4 corners with good, dot approved chain and binders, my pickup and trailer were in good shape with all working lights. I think his main concern was that the breakaway braking system was working. I also had the safety chains fastened securely on the hitch plate. The two things I overlooked were an extinguisher and the reflective roadside triangle thingies. I had two sets in my grain hauling semi, I just hadn't realized I needed them in my pickup. The officer strongly suggested I get them in the pickup soon, but only wrote me a warning. He actually was a nice guy, just doing his job. He must also help a farmer he knows in the busy seasons, so he probably had a pretty good understanding about what I was doing, and that I wasn't out looking for trouble. Needless to say, I haven't been on that particular road since then. |

I looked at my forklift today, it's an FTPL. Maybe a newer version of yours. Sure looks similar.
I believe I would avoid that road for a long time. |

An FTPL? I have found a lot of combinations of letters for model names for their fork trucks, but I don't think I had seen this one just yet. That makes sense, because I haven't seen any other fork trucks that look just like mine, either. I will add that model designation to my list of things to research. Thank you!
