starting with a simple one:
1st problem ever running it (engine purrs all day long).  starter just whines, like it's not engaging flywheel.  gonna pull it and see if just basic crud in there is causing malfunction.
so i presume i just disconnect at the top and undo the machine screw in the clamp and wiggle out the starter?  (blue circles)  and what the heck is that bolt for inside the green circle???
if it's anything like the automotive starters i've rehabbed before should be no problem.
only timid approaching an apparantly original piece i'd hate to wreck.

No reason to mess with the clamp at the back unless you are checking the brushes. If it whirs that part is probly alright. The bolt/stud in the green circle not only holds the starter in the correct position it is also the means for a solid ground for the starter.

Remove battery cable first.  Disconnect the cable from top of starter (top blue circle), remover bolt in side (green circle), slide starter out of bell housing.  No need to remove the band around back of starter.   Tim
