I have a pin hitch CA, which I believe is a 1953, and I was wondering what it takes to change it to a snap coupler? I have many snap coupler implements, a two bottom plow, a sickle mower, a dirt scoop, a harrow, blade, a cultivator, a boom, and a disk, but no pin hitch attachments. I use all those on my Wd45, but since my CA is pin hitch, all it does is run its 72” Artsway belly mower. I have read that you can’t use a WD’s bell and the rest of its snap coupler on CA’s, but I do have one. I could just get another WD or 45, as my cousin would sell me one, but I don’t have enough room under a shed to put another. And another thought is to convert a few implements to pin hitch, but I couldn’t find the pin hitch end at my cousin’s place. I need to look some more over there, and maybe I’ll find it sometime. I also need to find a drawbar for the CA, so if anyone has one they’d get rid of, let me know.
Thanks!

You will ned a CA snap coupler Bell and pin, it has a smaller diameter hole in it where it attaches to the tractor. Also the lift arms on the back are shorter for the snap coupler system, so you will either need to find some off of a newer CA or maybe modify the long ones on your tractor, not sure how much trouble that would be, and you will need the couplers for those arms also. The release lever for the snap coupler can be made easily, with a few pieces of metal, its just a bent arm and a 90 degree bracket, if you can't locate one. Then if you want the newer drawbar that came on snap coupler equipped tractors you will need the 2 brackets that bolt under the rear of the tractor and the drawbar side support bail and the drawbar itself. These lower brackets are available on eBay new, or were recently.  There is also a traction boost gauge that came on the original tractors equipped with snap coupler system that was located on the steering tube, but they are not really necessary, in my opinion anyway. The equipment that you mentioned like the plow you have, if it is for a WD, the CA may not pull it. Our CA will not pull our type 52 plow that was made for our WD, but we have very hard soil where I'm at. Good luck.

IIRR, the CA only takes a CA bell coupler.  Also, as has been mentioned, WD implements won't work on a CA.  Problem is length of the tongue, on the attachments, or some of them. Plows, for example, have 3 different tongue lengths, CA, WD, and D series, shortest, to longest, Again, IIRR...Wink

Thanks for the replys! If the only difference in the bells are the diameters of the holes, would it work to just get a bushing that fits in the WD’s bell to reduce its pin size? Then all I’d need to find would be the arms and latches. And I don’t know how feasible it would be, but if I knew the measurements of the snap coupler arms, maybe the local welding shop could make some up. If they’re not very easy to find, that is.
I have a couple sets of latches for a WD, but I suppose I’ll have to find a CA set somewhere.
I probably won’t be doing too much with the Ca and snap coupler, but probably use the back blade, maybe the harrow and possibly the boom. Since my WD45 has factory power steering, and an E Gleaner engine, I’ll keep using it on the bigger jobs. I have a three bottom slat plow for it, and I have a two bottom for the CA, but I probably won’t use it much.
I didn’t know about the difference in tongue lengths, I guess I’ll need to find out what I have for sure. Everything that I’ve tried works on my 45, so far.
Thanks

I have a 2 bottom pin hitch plow I'm going to rid of soon,  one way or another.  If you are interested I would sell the pin hitch and the lift arms, or the entire plow and a parts plow.  Otherwise they will probably be on a boat to china!  PM me if you are interested.
