Topic: CA clutch adjustmentPosted: 09 Jul 2018 at 5:43pm |

My CA went back together after the new engine rebuild good but I am having a clutch issue...
I cannot get the clutch to disengage, I adjusted the pressure plate per manual at 1.5 inches. It got a new clutch and pressure plate, when the tractor is running I can’t get the clutch to disengage far enough to go in gear. I run out of the adjustment on the rod... this tractor has the 8.5 clutch kit, and the old one was same size, ordered new from Steiner tractor Thinking the either old specs are not right for the new pressure plate, or something else is wrong, any ideas would be helpful thanks! Might be the throw out bearing or its mounting is worn and so not pushing the pressure plate arms far enough. The shop manual may have some hints.

Forgot to mention there is a new throw out bearing in, ive checked the manual and it seems I have way more than 1/4 between clutch and throwout

How well did it go together? Any issues at all? A bent disc will throw those fingers down and when you step in on the clutch pedal, the disc will move with the pressure plate, causing it to have a non release factor and will grind gears. Seen this happen hundreds of times. Also, if it is a new one, chances are it's from China and will NOT be set correctly and that might be your problem. Several possibilities here...Rick

Split it back apart your clutch disk has the hub facing the wrong way.

Maybe...maybe not. Those China clutches are bad about NOT working properly or being adjusted right in the first place. however, if you can't get it working no matter what you do, then you'll need to take it apart anyway. The spring cage of the disc goes towards the pressure plate...Rick

You could add a few more threads to the clutch rod. Just saying

Having the disc in backwards or bent doesn't have anything to do with lengthening the rod. I would start with adjusting the fingers first... Rick

I did a rebuild on ca once and had clutch problems much like yours. When I put the motor back to trans the brass pilot bearing was a little snug, just enough to drag a bit and make it hard to shift and would creep a bit with clutch depressed and in gear. After some time of letting the new pilot " bushing" wear in, it has worked fine for the last 10 years.
Not saying this is what's happening to yours, just another scenario. Leon B Mo
