    Posted: 18 May 2020 at 11:15am
A little stumped...
Last year after getting soaked in a down pour my CA has stopped charging. I have checked all the connections, the Generator will register a charge if I ground the F terminal (Jumps up to 20 amp).
I replaced the cutout but that did not help.
The multi-switch turns the lights on. I removed it and used electrical cleaner on it. Still no joy. I guess I need to remove it again and test to ensure it is making a connection when in the charge positions.

All Wiring and switch was replaced 4 years ago.

Any other ideas?

Yeah I had cleaned the mounting hole, the tab mounts and the shell connection to those tabs.
No joy.

grounding the F terminal makes it work...................... OK

The generator, cut out and power wire are OK.... The "F" terminal is the GROUND.. That wire goes to the SWITCH and is connected to the RESISTOR... which has the other side GROUNDED... In the switch OFF position, the "F" is grounded thru the resistor... In the LIGHT position, the "F" is bypassing the resistor and goes straight to ground for FULL CHARGE.....

If the system WILL NOT CHARGE in the LIGHT ON position, then the  SWITCH is bad or the SWITCH GROUND wire is bad............ If the system will not change in the SWITCH OFF position only, then the RESISTOR is bad.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Make sure the switch box is grounded too. A little rust under the screws that keep the cover on is all it takes to stop it from charging.

I'm having a similar issue with my WD45 which is basically the same system-yes?
I replaced nearly all the electrical components a few years ago-cutout,switch,ammeter and was working fine. Trying to get the rear work light working recently and made an accidental short there which killed everything. Found the fuse blown in the 3 position switch. Replaced the fuse thinking all would be ok but ever since then it shows no to very little charge with the switch out all the way which turns the lights on and if I run it long enough sometimes even shows discharge on the ammeter where before this would show the highest charge even with the lights on. The switch in the middle = no lights on but still a decent charge showing on the ammeter. I was thinking of replacing the cutout since it shows some rust discoloration around 1 of the terminals like maybe it got too hot and was the source of my problem or might the switch have caused that before the fuse blew? Would hate to replace everything again.

Run a ground wire from box or switch to battery ground cable. Them tractors get rust in steering post threads and loose ground.          MACK

It sounds like a good time to replace the cutout with a voltage regulator and replace the light switch with a regular push/pull switch. It's a very good upgrade to a 6 volt system.

Lionel........ like mentioned earlier, the "F" terminal on the generator runs to the switch resistor and is then ground THRU the resistor or AROUND the resistor depending on what position the switch is in.. You can BYPASS the switch and resistor and its ground wire by JUMPER a wire from the "F" terminal on the generator to the battery GROUND terminal.. If everything starts working, the problem is in the switch / resistor / ground wire of the box... If you STILL HAVE Low or no charge, then its the Generator, or the cutout.  You can put a volt meter on the  "A" terminal ( or Gen) with they other lead to ground and see if the Generator is putting out a charge.. If YES, then the Cutout is not working.. It should CLOSE when the tractor is running and OPEN when tractor is shut down.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
