    Posted: 07 Jun 2012 at 11:16am
I was raking hay today and when I got home(about 1 mile on the road) and parked it, white smoke was coming out of the RH brake opening and the hand clutch opening. I let it sit for a minute and then felt the axle housing. The housings on both sides of the transmission along with the transmission was hot. The smoke stopped after about 2 minutes after I noticed it. What do you guys think is wrong?

Any help will be appreciated,
JarrodACFan

P.S. I added some trans. fluid after I saw it smoking, in case that matters.

Just a guess, the brake may be rusted in place.

The mice aren't going to like you for disturbing their nests.
Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

That is possible, but when we painted it a month or two ago, we took the pressure washer and stuck it down in that hole and REALLY washed it good. Also, it has been blown out with air many times.

We just replaced the brake shoes when we restored the tractor, so I don't thik that is it.

I am leaning toward the brakes dragging, I will check it when I get a chance today and tell you guys what I find out.

Did it smell similar to someone welding? That seems to be the smell I get when I forget to unlatch the brakes on Dad's 656 Farmall. Shocked

When I install new brakes on old tractors I leave them set with more free travel for a day or two and that will let them wear in some without all the white smoke coming out the mice holes. lol

Inner bearing going out? You would think it would make noise though.

When dad got home, he looked at it and he thinks the brakes were just seating and I noticed that one brake pedal came down more than the other, so I loosened the one up so they are equal now. We will see what happens tommorow because I have some more raking to do.
