I was reading the newest Antique Power this morning and saw this ill informed opinion printed. Seems there should be a delete button for Facts that aren't facts when they are printed.

I do wonder what the "A" in CA really designates.

I saw that letter yesterday.  Was thinking someone should write a letter back.  I have a CA just like the one in the picture.  Other then the 4 speed and 2d clutch, what differences are there between a C and CA?

Creston, the A stands for AWESOME!

My CA had a TB guage on the steering column.. it was a '51 I think, had it been a '53 it'd still be here.

So if I had an adjustable width front end on my B it would be considered a BA, and if I put duallys on the rear also then it's considered a BAD tractor. That's BS or dare I say it "Fake News". LOL

I sent a message right away on facebook and got a reply that the editor would be notified.
The differences that i can think of are, the tapped bosses in the front pedestal , tapped bosses on the torque tube, Platform under the drivers pan seat, 4 piston(WD) hydraulic pump with Traction boost,(not all CA's had the Snap Couple or TB gauge), magneto only the first couple years of production, power shift rear wheels with different bolt pattern than the C, higher RPM, option of a hand clutch on one rear axle, and what am I forgetting?

The fellow might have see a CA with a narrow front from a C. No difference other than the above stated cultivator bosses. I put a CA narrow front on my C I pulled with to use the bosses to mount weight out front. Think about all the C's that confuse people that have B wide fronts. Not everyone reads these boards as we all do.

The shop manual that covers G, B, C, and CA will show some factory differences:

‘Course there’s the fact that the CA replaced the C and they were never manufactured at the same time....that little detail.

the final drives on a B and C are bolted on straight up and down with respect to the bolt pattern......... Seems like the CA they are tilted back slightly to give it a longer wheel base ?  Or did I dream that ?  Have not seen a CA for several years.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

The bolt pattern is the same for all three. The final drive casting is what sets the rear axles back.

I used to have a CA single front.  Would that be a CS?

WF, NF, single wheel. They were all called a CA. Unlike another tractor manufacturer, AC didn't nit pik names for the same tractor with slightly different options.

I read that there were 10 improvements in model CA over model C: 1-increased HP, 2- improved hydraulics, 3-four speed transmission, 4-heavier axle, 5-draft control, 6-seat shocks, 7-improved hitch, 8-hand clutch, 9-live PTO, 10-spin out wheels.

So that would mean you have a CAHPIH4SPHADCSSIHHCLPTOSOW, now put that on the tranny before the serial number. Wink
