I bought an adapter sleeve to convert the 1 1/8" PTO shaft to 1 3/8" so I can mount my SunMastr drive pulley on my C.  The sleeve fits on really tight, but I am thinking eventually it would walk off.  The shaft has a cross hole that matches a hole in the sleeve, but I can't finger out what the helms size it is - I tried a 5/32" roll pin - too loose.  A 3/16" roll pin doesn't seem to want to go in no matter what I try.  Could it be a 9/64"?
Anyone run into this?  Maybe I should just cross drill the pulley sheave and run a really long roll pin thru the whole thing.  Not sure if there is enough shank on the pulley though.
cheers,

You'll need a pin all the way through any way. You have no other way to keep the pulley from coming off. I used a 1/4" bolt with nut and lockwasher. when I had one on the C. you could put a late model B SHAFT IN THEN YOU DON'T NEED AN ADAPTER.

Seems like 3/16 is what I used, but I've slept since then.  I know it was tight enough I had to drive it in.

If it's an overrunning-clutch in addition to a size adapter, you won't benefit from the ORC if you put a bolt or pin the whole way through.  Although with a belly mower I doubt that's what you're hoping to achieve anyway.  I knew a guy that had an ORC and couldn't figure out why his 3pt blower was pushing him all over his yard.  When I checked it out he had a pin the whole way through... defeating the ORC.

I'd like to go the new shaft route but that ain't gonna happen this week and the grass is growing.  Sounds like the best bet is to bore it out to 1/4 like murray did and stick in a grade 8 bolt.  The sheave has a clamping center, but like Dave says I will need to lock it on anyway, might as well drill it out and go thru the whole thing - shaft, adaptor, and sheave with one long bolt.
thanks

Be somewhat careful with that sleve adapter.  When we used them in the 50's they would shatter after use.  They did not come out and cause damage but we eventually had to replace the 1 1/8" PTO shaft with the newer 1 3/8" PTO housing.
If you are just using it to power a mower you may be and I sincerely hope all right. Perhaps the metal is better now.   Just keep an eye on it.
Good Luck!

There must have been a piece of an old pin in the hole - I went to drill it out last night with a 1/4" drill and it made a couple turns and then slid right thru.  I'll put a grade 8 bolt thru it - strangely, the pulley from the Sun Mastr doesn't have a hole thru it or any way I can see to lock the sheave to the shaft - the center is split and has a bolt clamp thingy but that is it.  I drilled thru to match the hole in the shaft/adapter, hopefully can keep them all lined up.
cheers,
Creek
