Does any body know what model this bush hog is and where I can find the serial number at on it?
Also the middle gearbox is leaking oil out the bottom seal, would it be easier to pull the entire gearbox off and rebuild it instead of just replacing that seal from the bottom?

If it where me I think I would want to pull the gearbox simply to check all the seals and bearings. If it is new to you. If you have been running it and it just started leaking then it wouldn't scare me too much. It is just that by the time someone sells something that leaks I find they have probably abused it pretty bad.

The seal leaking could be a sign the bearing is getting ready to give out.

If it is a BUSH HOG bush hog, there was generally a riveted plate, near the central gearbox, on every one, I've ever seen.  If the leak is just a seep, I've drilled in a grease fitting, just below the lower gear bearing (between it, and the bottom bearing) It works on the single gear box units, just pump the bottom end full of corn head grease, and the seep stops...Lamp

It looks like a model 2512. That is what is on the right-hand side in back of the centerline.

Well I tried ordering some bearing for a 2512 and they were the wrong size!
The bearings are way to small so I talked to a dealer to order some more and got the same ones again! so I'm wondering if its really a 2512?

Why not take it apart and find out what parts you need before you order parts?

the bearing should have some info on it

that is a 2512, avery light duty cutter at best. The issue it had was keeping the center gear box tight.  The seal is easier removed from the bottom - make sure there is no play in shaft - if there is a seal is not a solution.  Loosen blade carrier bolt - line up blade bolt with hole in deck -- place a jack on the opposite side between stump jumper and deck pushing down then smack with a sledge the pan from above through hole - this prevents a see saw action...

on my Bush Hog, we had to replace the seal from the bottom. best (easiest and safest) way is to turn the whole mower upside down and work on it that way. (faster too)

It had a leaky seal when a bought it a few months ago. So far I've mowed over hundred acres without problem, just had to keep an eye on the oil level. I like using the 12ft mower because it puts less strain on my 190XT than my 15ft bush hog will.
