My wife's grandpa has a bunch of old equipment he hasn't used in years. A lot of it isn't any good, or any good to me but I did talk him out of this piece. It's a Woods T 72. I had to replace one tire, I got it for free from the city cleanup last week. Put a new tube in it and put it on today. He said the gearbox needs a new seal in the bottom, he's been pumping it full of gun grease for years. I couldn't get the adjustment crank to move but that's easily fixed. Other than that, a pass with the grease gun and it's field ready. I thought it would make a nice match for my WD 45 when I get it running again. Any Ideas what one of these is worth? Just out of curiosity.
Later, Brad

P.S. Don't mind the mud all over everything. It's been raining here since Friday night and I had to drag it through a real slop hole. Throwing mud in oad gear is impressive until you realize that the mower, the tractor, and yourself are completely plastered. Ooops. Oh well, God made dirt, dirt won't hurt.

any of the pull type mowers that work, will usually bring around $500+ on any sale.

I have a Bush Hog Squealer that also has a bad seal. Been putting heavy gear oil in the case when I use it. Which would be better, grease or oil, or just put whatever you have in there. This one on only gets used on grown up properties first time over when I haven't a clue what I could run over.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Do I really need to replace the seal? or can I get by with putting gun grease or heavy gear lube in it? This one probably won't get used much either, but I don't want to ruin it. I might actually have a need for it someday. Anybody have much experience with one of these woods mowers? Are they any good?
Thanks, Brad |

I havn't had any woods, but the folks I talked to love em. they bought one at work 6ft and the fella who does the maintenance was pushing 4 inch trees over with the bucket and running them over with the brush hog!! shards of wood flying every were!!! when I left the place they were still using it after 14 years of abuse. woods seem to carry a little better price around here. |

A buddy had one with pneumatic tires (no flats). He ran over a lot of stuff over the years. Finally, the gearbox went out (many pieces). A new gearbox was more than what the whole thing was worth so he junked it out.
He bought it at a retiring farmer's auction and I think he paid $700 for it and used it a lot for over 10 years. It didn't owe him anything when he quit using it. Good luck.
