![]() My latest Model G acquisition included a few things. One of which was this Brinly-Hardy Single Row Planter. The owner of the Model G indicated that this planter had somehow been used with that tractor.
Included with the planter were 11 seed plates and a couple of 12 tooth sprockets.
I've spent this afternoon peering at these plates & sprockets trying to locate any part numbers. I think I've been sucessful in identifying everything but the results are, to me, a little strange.
All of the sprockets and seed plates seem to be from an outfit called The Covington Planter Company of Albany, GA. Brinly-Hardy was located in Louisvill, KY.
Despite the Covington part numbers, the seed plates seem to fit the planter. More research is needed but the sprocket's axle hole seems to be too small to fit any shaft I can see.
Although it is an apples to oranges comparison, I must say I was heartened by the recent eBay auction of a NOS Brinly planter that - generally speaking - looks like mine.
Anybody have any experience with the Brinly-Hardy Planter?

Scott,
This information is from a retired employee of Brinly-Hardy Company. He had 43 years of service with Brinly before his retirement. Hopefully this will be some insight to your planter. Good Luck....and I quote: "Our planters were made by Cole Mfg (no longer in business) and a company named Powell Mfg. Powell had parts at one time but I don't think they are in business anymore. We made a special mounting for the Allis-Chalmers (I think this tractor may have become the Simplicity). The Covington parts he described should fit the Cole Planter. Covington made a precision planter at one time and we sold a few under the Brinly name. I don't think they were associated with Cole at all. I don't understand how the seed plates could fit. The Cole plates did not have Covington name on them and they were cast plates with only a part number on them. Parrish Implement (Buford Parrish) is still listed in the phone book (502-584-6346) and he used to have a lot of old BH parts, including planter parts. That would be his only hop, other than the internet. There's a lot of sites and a lot of parts still around. Hope this helps."than the internet. There's a lot of sites and a lot of parts still around. Hope this helpse fellow with the planter. Our main one was made by Cole Mfg. (no longer in business) and a company named Powell Mfg. (or Cole Powell) had parts at one time, but I don't think they are in business anymore. We made a special mounting for the Allis-Chambers (I think this tractor eventually became a Simplicity brand)

Thanks for your thoughtful post.
When I looked at the information I could find on the Brinly Hardy planter, the parts numbers were different for the seed plates. The numbers listed for the Brinly Hardy plates all started with "OR" - such as OR-100 or OR-41.
Although tough to see on most of my plates, with the right lighting and a magnifying glass I was able to make out the various part numbers. All of the numbers on my plates started with "TP" - such as TP528 or TP905.
An internet search with these part numbers brought up some seed plates on eBay attributed to Covington. I found seed plate information for Covington...
...and these seed plates look identical to mine.
Covington mentions on their web site:
Visit our other planter models at our sister company Cole Planter Company.
Just starting to dip my toe into the world of small corn planters but it seems like there's a lot of interaction between Cole, Brinly-Hardy & Covington.
Pictures of one of my Seed Plates follow. Once again, these plates seem to operate in the Brinly-Hardy without binding, sticking or causing any mechanical issues.
Best regards,
Scott
