    Posted: 11 May 2012 at 5:02pm
I need some help. I just replaced the brake bands on my B and I don't know how the brake locks are supposed to work. I never was able to use them even before doing the brake job and I don't know if they were even installed properly. (someone had obviously had the brakes apart before) Does anyone have pictures of the orientation of the cast brake lock pieces?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Al

The brake locks just hold back the brake levers into the on position.

I know that but, I want to see how they're supposed to be on the tractor. My manuals don't show them very well.

There are quarter moon pieces that go on the brake linkage by the opening for the brake bands.  When you wish to latch the brakes you flip them forward and they will hold the brakes.  Perhaps someone else will have pictures.
Take good care of my favorite.
Good Luck!

Well, this is how I put them back on. It's not the way that they had been installed, but it's the only way that I could get them to seem like they would actually function. Does this look right to you guys?

thats correct, just flip them up otherwise if you hit the brakes hard it will lock.  if you want locks to work you cant adjust the bands super tight or the lock wont fall down far enough to lock.  one of my bands is too tight after i put everything back together from switching final drives from my old parts tractor.

Some of our customers ground teeth on the locks so that they would hold better.
The mounting is correct.
Good Luck!

I have the same problem with my left brake. When I got the tractor, the adjustment bolt wasn't even screwed into the nut in the brake band. After I installed the new brake band, I had a hard time even getting the adjustment bolt to start into the nut. Then, there was almost no travel of the pedal before the brake was completely locked up. The band was so tight that I couldn't use the brake lock. When I tried to adjust the brakes a little looser, the bolt popped out of the nut. It seems as if I should have an adjustment bolt that is at least 3/8" longer than the ones I have. Are there, by any chance, longer ones made?

left and right are different casted pieces and have there own numbers, they are a mirror image of each other.
