it looks like i am not going to have time to install the engine in the truck,so i built a engine stand so i can display the engine at the aths show.i took the injection pump& injectors to shield diesel this week.i told them to set the pump to 525hp.they called back friday and said the pump needed a new thottle shaft ($175.00) and a couple injectors needed some new nozzles ($75.00 each) the total bill of $2100.00!!.wow!!,i guess if want the best you have to pay!i will have a the engine mounts fabed this week then i can start assembling and painting the engine. i have a good sample of the big al purple on the compressor housing so i can get i matched at the paint store. |

Big Al, Tell me more about your truck project with the Big Al engine. As you Know I have an engine and am not quite sure what to do with it. A friend has a 75 Dodge tilt cab (day cab) tandem with a tight 335 Cummins and a Specier 4x4 twin stick trans.
Installing my BIG AL should be fairly easy. Looking for advice. Do you have any idea where to find a bellhousing and clutch flywheel? I've never been a big Dodge fan but it sure would be unique. It also has a KW 20K front axle. Previous owner was going to make a dump truck out of it. I'm sure it would have killed his back. Edited by Calvin Schmidt - 25 Apr 2011 at 1:17pm |

calvin, the flywhl. housing is not a big deal.alot of 844s had sae#1 housings.the correct housing for a truck has a round bottom.some industial housings have feet cast in the bottom, which should not be an issue.the hard part is going to be the flywhl itself.it has to have a raised lip around the edge to mount the 15.5" spicer clutch and a hole for the pilot bearing. ther were many flywhls listed in the old parts books that may work or can be modified. i am going to make a drawing of mine when i install it in a couple of weeks, so i can use it as a reference in the future.the rest of the engine should not be an issue if your not worried about originality.the injection pump may have to be worked over because of the gov. settings used in generators ect.
