Its amazing to see these old videos, a glimpe back in time on how this used to be. Amazing how dealerships have changed over the years but stayed the same in ways. Thanks for posting

Thanks for bringing that back up again as I was real busy and missed it the first time...P & B and then Balk Tractor were my home town Allis dealers.....Over the years Dad and I bought lots of new and used equipment from them......Balk Tractor made a deal that was hard to beat and their service was second to none..My brother was a mechanic there from 1972 until they closed in the late 1980's...I sometimes went on service calls with my brother and one time one of them was 150 miles one way...They sold stuff far and wide..I knew almost every one in that film clip and spent many hours in that building..Larry and Gary Balks mother Mary was my 3rd grade teacher..Today Larry still farms and his older brother Gary is retired and lives in Texas...I have great memories of P & B and then Balk tractor...P & B was Pete Peterson and Vernon Balk..Pete did the sales and Vernon was a great mechanic that ran the shop..

Heres a E Gleaner that Dad bought new from P & B(before Balks) in late 1966...This picture was taken in 1968..We traded in a 203 IH...Because of this 203 (3) new E Gleaners were sold..

Heres a new 200 Allis Dad bought from Balks in the spring of 1973..I got a new 7040 and a new 7060 AC's there but cant find any pictures of them..

Heres a D-21 Allis that I and my brother bought from Balks around 1983...We pulled it some at 12,000 and 13,000 lbs..

My F3 Gleaner I bought new from Balks in the fall of 1983...Here it is stuck on a neighbors place in 1985..

New 1981 N-7 Gleaner from Balks that I demoed for 10 hours in the terribly muddy fall of 1981...That thing was a horse in the mud...

A new L2 that a neighbor got from Balks in late 1979...He got done before the mud came so came over to try it out on my last 100 acres of beans in very muddy conditions..It got the job done and my neighbor and I were smiling ear to ear..My neighbor farmed 1000 acres and bought tons of stuff from Balks..

Balks also took in the Case line in 1978...In 1979 I bought a new 2390 Case from them...This picture was taken in the spring of 1980..Its pulling a new 16 ft AC chisel...

Balks were Krause dealers and for 4-5 years in the late 1970's-early 80's it was all set up at my farm on weekends..Heres a large disk we just finished up..The Krause semi delivered many loads to my farm..

Larry Balk was in to tractor pulling and it helped him sell (100) new 190 XT's..This picture was taken in Sept 1968 at Hume,MO...The late Jim Keith on the left won the 9000 class on his XT, a smiling Larry Balk in the center won the 12,000 class on a XT,and a HS classmate Steve Vaughn won the 15,000 class on his XT..

Larry Balk pulling his XT at Rich Hill,MO in 1969..Customer Jim Keiths new D-21 is on the sled..In the 1970's Balk tractor sponsored the Orange Krate national level 190XT puller from Rich Hill,MO..

Balk Tractor customer Steve Vaughn winning the 15000 class at Hume,MO in 1968....The Vaughn family farmed lots of acres with AC and Gleaners..I think they bought the first new D-21 sold at my dealer..

Did they sell the buisness to someone else or did they just close the doors? Would have been fun to see it in its prime.

Starting in 1980 high interest rates and 7 years of terrible weather took its toll on many farmers and farm related business's in this area of Missouri..I think that Balks had 50 repoed combines on the lot at one time in the mid 80's......In the mid-late 1970's to the early 80's this was a large AC dealer that did business over a 150 mile area...I think they were the 5th largest AC dealer in the US at one time...They sold out in the late 1980's and no one replaced them....Now the nearest Agco dealer is 50 miles away...In an area that once had lots of orange and silver the newer stuff is all green and red..There is still lots of older AC stuff in this area that my brother works on to this day..The Balk brothers were great people to do business with and to this day I consider them good friends..

Here is a AC wagon and AC hoist with a big bin grain box from Hiawatha Kansas that came from P & B Implement. Alfred Peterson was my neighbor growing up and he always had a real slick yellow garden tractor he mowed his yard with. His son was later a neighbor. I have a 712 shuttle garden Tractor I bought new from Balks and still have it.

I looked up what I could find yesterday and I found some legal paper saying Balk Tractor ....... Voluntary Dissolved https://www.bizapedia.com/mo/balk-tractor-equipment-co.html

But it looks like there is a CaseIH dealer in the same town. Probably why they lost the J. I. Case contract when Case merged with IH.

Nevada hadnt had a IH dealer since 1967 so Balks were the only Case-IH dealer in 1985..The period of 1982-87 was terrible for tractor dealers in my area as nothing was selling....Lots had new 2-3 year old tractors and combines sitting on the lot..Lots of AC customers were upset with Duetz for buying out Allis...Balks would have been a great Case-IH dealer...We finally got a Case-IH dealer in 1993...

Loyal Balk customer A F Yarick from Rich Hill,MO pulled this 190 XT from around 1971-75...It ran all over the midwest in the 7000-9000 classes..Balks did most of the work on it..Today the Yarick family pulls two strong John Deere pro stocks on the Outlaw circuit..
Loyal Balk customer the late Jim Keith from Richards,MO pulled this 15,000 lb D-21 from 1969-74....Here it is at Sedalia,MO in 1972..Jims brother Bill is in the film clip and still uses several AC tractors today....Jims son Jeff owns the first 220 AC built which Balks sold new..Its not for sale..

Heres my 1977 Allis 7060 in Nov of 1977 pulling out my stuck 715 IH with Arps half tracks on..I got this 7060 AC new from Balks but it came from the AC dealer at Clinton,MO..I and my brother took my 10 wheeler to Clinton one Sunday morning to haul it down here as Balks were swamped with business and couldnt get it for a few days....We had it in the field a day later in May of 1977...

Another shot of the demo N-7 Gleaner from Balks in action in December 1981...It was a Sunday and we mudded out nearly 100 acres of double crop beans that day..They were planted the middle of July...It was tough and the rotor was set almost on 0 to knock out the beans..The N-7 ran 5-6 MPH in all of this..We only got stuck once..We mudded out all the wheat in 1981 and then mudded out all the beans that fall..

An F2 Gleaner Balks let me use to help in the horribly muddy fall of 1985...An ice storm had taken down lots of the beans...This was right at Christmas..

How would you like to haul beans out of this mess....This was a township road in December 1985...No one lived on that mile so it wasnt graveled as the township was hurting for money..You couldnt get a drop of rain in the summer but you could sure get it in the fall plus an early ice storm to take the beans down and knock off pods....Lots of beans had shattered and were already on the ground..The 1980's were brutal in my area of Missouri..We had a 500 year flood in Oct 1986 after already having 6 wild weather years in a row..From 1984-88 there were numerous foreclosure sales...Even the best of farmers and tractor dealers barely survived..Land fell to $400-500 per acre but no one could afford it..

I bought an AC wagon gear with AC hoist and a Big Bin grain bin on it and it has the remnants of the old P & B (Petersen and Balk) dealership sticker on it.  I called and talked to Larry Balk to see if he had any of the old stickers and he did not.  I bought a 712 Shuttle lawn and garden tractor from Gary and Larry back in the early 70's.  I even kidded Larry that they never put the dealership decal on the tractor.  Here are a couple of pictures of the wagon.  The WD45 Diesel came from my Granddad's AC dealership just 25 miles south of Balk's in Liberal Mo.  Alfred Peterson was my neighbor growing up and he always mowed his yard with a sharp yellow AC garden tractor, and his son later was my neighbor and has a real nice restored WD45.

The newest  P & B sticker would be almost 50 years old and would be almost impossible to find..I'll save the picture of yours...I'll have to ask my brother if he knows where any Balk stickers are at on tractors so I can get a picture of one..He still works on lots of AC tractors and Gleaner combines within a 70 mile radius of Nevada....Theres quite a bunch of the older AC and Gleaner stuff still being used..

My only connection with P and B is that my parents bought their farm from Mrs. Peterson. She inherited from her parents. Her uncles and cousin still lived here as I was growing up. My mother kept in touch with Mrs Peterson until she died. I earned my high school and college tuition hauling prairie hay for them. Very nice people.
