I'm looking for suggestions for a USED baler that makes big round bales that I can use behind my 190 gas tractor (76 hp @ PTO). I'll be putting up close to 100 bales this year. I'm looking for something on the lower end of the price range. Maybe a Massey 1560 or Vermeer 605f?? Maybe not?? I have seen mixed (mostly bad) reviews about the Deere 510.
Any suggestions?? Do you know of a good one for sale?? Edited by Brian-KS - 19 May 2015 at 12:20pm |

It seems to me that most of those balers specify a 100+ HP tractor. I could be wrong. No doubt you'd want a smaller capacity big baler.

I put my 660 new Holland behind my one ninety gas for a short time, and it was definitely too much baler for the tractor. I would imagine that any 5 X 6 baler would pull equally as hard, so I would say that you will have to go to like a 4 X 5 or smaller baler. Guess if you weren't in a hurry, didn't have the bale density too tight, and had all flat ground, then you could probably do it. Darrel

We ran a 605 F behind a 190xt Diesel for years didn't have any problems, if your ground is flat, and no more than 100 bales a year, I would just plan on it. I know the gasser may not lug as well, so you could have issues in non ideal conditions, but I would think you should be fine.

Dad pulled a 1500 Gehl for years with his 190XT gasser with no problems. He custom baled thousands of bales with it. A 1500 I think is similar in size to a 605F.

There is a huge difference between a one ninety gas, and an XT diesel. The same 660 new Holland that my one ninety gas struggled with, my XT diesel toys with. Darrel

Thanks for the replies guys! Sounds like a Gehl 1500A or a Ford 552 (same thing only blue) would be my best choice.
Has anyone here had experience with a Hesston 5545 ? Would that be a good one for my 190? It's a 4x5 baler. If anyone knows of one for sale, please let me know. ![]() Edited by Brian-KS - 19 May 2015 at 7:10pm |

I have an xt diesel and purchased a Hesston 560 on Big Iron a little over a year ago for 900. (yeah I know not that many can be had that cheap) but the nicest thing is the bale kicker (no backing up required when dumping a bale). There are quite a few 560/565 or case 8460/8465 balers that sell on Big Iron for a cheap price. As a matter of fact there is one going off tomorrow that looks nice but sits in Nebraska.

I pulled a Vermeer 605C for twenty years with a 706 IH gas, I thought it was about a perfect match, about same hp as your 190 and I did 600 or 700 bales a year.

We have ran a New Idea 484 4x5 round baler behind our 190 XT3 diesel. It mostly played with it but a gas may have been a different story. our 484 has been a good baler.

We ran a 605C behind a 706 IH diesel as well and later a 605H baler. Ran both balers just fine. |

We use a JD 385 that makes 4x5 bales. We have pulled it behind a 175 diesel, 6060, and 6070. No issues with any of them.

Probably is 13 HP on paper, but in actuality, the difference between a non-XT gas, and an XT diesel is quite a bit more. Darrel |

My series 4 D17 diesel turns out around 70 hp. it runs a NH 851 round baler well. If you can find 1 with new chains they will serve you well. They do not make a good looking bale.

You should be fine. My neighbor runs a 180 diesel on a 4x5 NH 648. Runs it pretty well too. The only reason though is because his 6080 blew an engine and is in the shop.
