 Topic: Bale Loader

I picked up an AC Tractor Mounted bale loader today. It has a couple broken chain links and possibly needs more work that I will find out about when I get it moving. I'm wanting to mount it on my WD45, does anyone have pictures of one mounted to a WD45 they could post for me to reference? I'm not even sure if I have all the pieces to hook it up.

Finding an Operators manual and a parts book would be your best help, once you get them you'll always have them to refer back to.

I got an AC bale loader with wheels on it that tows along next to a truck or wagon. At first I thought it was factory but have never seen anything like it. Now I'm thinking my late neighbor may have built it for the late owner. Everyone who might know is long gone. Don't know if I should cut it out and make it a tractor mount or leave it as is.

I remember those Bale Loaders when my father had an Allis Dealership.
It was not an Allis manufacture. The loader was Green in colour.
You chained it to the side of the Hay Wagon. It was Ground Driven.

The manual seems like it will be the best bet at getting it hooked up. There aren't a whole lot of pictures online showing how the loader is supposed to attach.

The one my neighbor had was tractor mounted. --- kinda a PITA, but he got along with it somehow.

We had an after market one. It mounted behind the rear axle and loaded the bales on the hay rack. Worked great.

Had one mounted on a WC-worked quite well, especially if you could leave it on one tractor for the season and not have to take it off. My memory is it was PTO driven at the rear platform. Not sure how it is done on a WD since that platform is quite different from WC. It took a little practice to spear the small round bales just right and get them turned & headed up the elevator.

We have used a Meyer bale loader since 1953. It has an offset drawbar that facilitated it to pull along side of the wagon. The bales were turned lengthwise to be loaded. We always cut raked and baled up to 7500 round bales at a time and then started loading into the barns. The bales developed a moist bottom from the dew, etc. and so benefited from being flippped over as well as put lengthways. This job was for the younger kids that always could "turn" faster than us older folks. It wasn't completely necessary as you could turn them with the loader if driving just right but the moist bottoms were more of an issue.
Those were the good old days....we still have the loader and 42 ft KingWyse elevator with an 18 foot mow ladder extension to put the bales within throwing distance of anywhere in the barns. My dad was always in the mow untill well into his 80's...he always said if his legs were as good as his arms, he would be able to outwork us younger folks. (Not trying to hijack the original post but the topic presented itself so I throw this in!)

After a few trips up and down the field I quit. Got on my mini bike and headed home. Almost home, I had an idea. Went back to the field and rode past each bale straight legging each bale to turn it. Problem solved. Rupp mini bike. Dad had that Roto baler and loader for 45 years. Never owned a square baler. Memories.....

Reminds me of the time I had a roto-baler, I took a 4 wheeler with a snow blade, and would start at one row of bales, push them till I couldn't push any more, then go to the other end and push same way, toward the center of the field, as before. Then I went to the center and pushed piles back toward the ends. Didn't have a loader, but my way put lotsa bales into a smaller space, and saved tons of walkin...
