Thanks R.W.  I won't make much of my money back on these restorations whether they were absolutely correct or not.  I just love doing it.  I figure I might get back 33 cents per dollar spent.  I never said I was smart.

I reworked my 49 B.It was a pile of junk.I customized it some . Fender bad ,gas tank ,front end, grill, hood been shot through,I moved steering ,seat and pedels forward a foot and lowered them about six inches,I made fenders bat box foot rest bumper and three point hitch and twelve volt,Pictures have been on here some time back. Took a year and half and 2800 dollars and now be lucky to get 1000 but I am proud of it .

The front tras bearing is "loaded" by adjusting the number of shims under the cover on the front of the transmission. You don't want it too tight, just a little preload.

Thanks Bill, that helps.  Kind of similar to wheel bearings, only with them it is a nut.

i have a first cousin named Bill Becker.  Owns Becker Trailer Sales here in West Salem.  Actually a quite common name.  There are, I believe, at least 3 here on the forum!

If the black is shiny, as yours is, I don't think it is going to get much hotter then an orange or red gas tank would.
I guess I am a purest but it is your tractor and if it makes you happy, more power to you.
(As long as you don't paint it pink, purple or green!)
Getting close, good work!

Fired up Haney this afternoon.  Runs very good.  No leaks--yet.  The throttle is really touchy, if I pull the throttle back to idle it dies.  On the other end, if I push the throttle forward it revs quickly.  Runs smoothly.  I guess the low idle needs adjustment.  Once I get the bugs worked out I'll put the tin on.

Front end still needs paint.  I also have better tires I plan to put on the tractor.

Steve,
Glad to see Haney outside and running. You do a nice job on getting these back into good order. Well with the different color combos you cant get them mixed up too easy. You may just need to recheck your throttle linkages all the way to the carb. Very similar to a problem I had on the wide frame WD. Found the rod from the carb to the governor was too long. by .25 inches. Shortened it and had much better results.
Are there some stainless fasteners on there? Look good!
Stance looks good too.
Regards,
Chris

Got Haney just about done.  I'm waiting on an ammeter to finish the electrical hookup.  I plan to get the mower deck installed next weekend.  I like the black.

Ya know, I kind of like the color layout......... black hood and tank kind of grows on you.. Sure sets things off compared to solid orange.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Awesome paint job on both tractors!( I checked out your C) I really like how you did them up. Makes me want to paint my tractor a different paint job like you did, but I find myself struggling to part with the weathered, faded orange I currently have.😀

Thanks for all the comments guys.  I put the engine side weights on this evening.  I also painted the drawbar.  I have to finish rebuilding the mower and get it installed.  I didn't keep track of the costs on this one.  However, I was more frugal on this build.  I'm guessing I finished for around 3-4 K.  Still too much for a B, but it's a well restored machine.  I've got another B waiting in the wings!

Got the mower deck partially installed.  I thought it would go faster than it did.  This this is really heavy!  I will finish it up next weekend.  I even bought new decals to go on the refurbished deck.

Steve,
Your costs sound about right! Still way more of a mower than a throw away from a big box store!
The mower looks good! Are there belt covers?

I don't think I have ever seen the belly mower drive pully idler bracket bolted to the bottom of the transmission housing on the final drive case bolts... normally there is a 3 inch box section running between the final drive boxes and bolted to the draw bar bolt holes........ is this standard for that manufacture of mower ?
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Steve,
Yes.  This is by the book.  I was able to get an original manual for the Arts-Way I372B.  I have the original final drive plates for the AC C, and the company no longer makes the B plates.  I had to fabricate them.  Easy though.  The belts and blades are still available from Arts-Way.  Even the castor wheels are available.  I salvaged one, but had to buy one too.

I don't like how far back the chain holder is for the front of the deck.  My 59L is more forward and seems better balanced.  This thing is REALLY heavy too.  I plan to try and fabricate a hand raising mechanism instead of the hydraulic.  I still have to finish installation.

Chris,
Thanks.  Glad to hear the WD is running.  Rough is better than not.  You'll get it.
I do have the belt covers.  I ran out of time Sunday putting the deck on the B.  Tough job by yourself.  I'll finish up and give her a spin next weekend.
