Are b and c belly mowers the same? If not, how hard is it to mount a b mower under a c?

If you mean sickle bar mowers, there is no difference.  Rotary mowers are something else entirely.  Woods brackets are different between the B and the C/CA to allow for the different distance between final drives.

Some of the Woods belly rotary mowers have an adjustable pipe on the frame that allows you to put the mower on a B or a C/CA and some do not. I have had both.

Yes, the only difference is the cross tube push bar that bolts to the final drives. Mine is a 3 piece that will fit B,C, or CA.

When the CA came out the number 5 mower was developed.  It was basically a B-C mower that was adapted to fit either the B-C or the CA.  Only thing needed to make the changes was the kit for the B-C lift arrangement and the kit for the CA lift arrangement.  Since the final drives on the CA were angled to the rear it made it a little longer so there was a two position for bolting the mounting brackets on the mower frame.
The B-C sickle bar mower was the same for both.  I sure mounted enough of them.  In fact, when we sold the B and C for quite some time it was the only mower available.
Rotaries were yet to come.
Sorry I got a little windy but the question brings back some very good memories.
Good Luck!

If you have a B or a C mount, you could do it with a torch or cut-off saw and some new pipe.

I've got all the stuff with a 72" Woods deck that came off of a C... unfortunately, I have two Bs and no C (the mount is non-adjustable). I don't really approve of using these tractors for yard mowing anyway... there's real work to be done with them.
