The auction page does have a no nonsense attitude that varies at it's level of enforcement. I have been suspecting that a few folks are running up bids for their friends, but haven't cared enough to investigate.
I've bought a few things off there and really had a great experience with the guys selling on there. |

Has different names in various parts of the country, "shill" bidders, "bid runnning" "running up the bid" He is talking about owners, their representatives, sometime the auctioneers them selves who is bid on an item for the sole purpose of running up the price. |

If the Shill is the high bid then they are stuck with the item right? So I guess it just gets relisted?

I agree with what you guys are saying ,it happens all the time at every auction you go to. But when you catch them at it, and they call you a liar. I dont take to well to being called a liar.

It's like that on many of the auctions on there - so you have to watch who is selling as well as the bidder's record of bidding on one persons auction - there is some history logs on there .
I buy British Motorcycle parts fairly often and have only run into couple crooks or sleazy individuals - one banned me from his auctions after i called him out on junk head he sent me wit hstripped plug hole and stripped exhaust port threads - then one of his so called other sites I came up banned on also - funny that site owner bid on many of the items offered by first guy - found 6 ties between sites and bidders -

LOL I was high ( and only Bidder) on an AC B at a local auction this fall... it was rough I bid $50.00 then someone else apparently Bid and I walked away. the auctioneer came after me and asked what Id pay for the tractor.. I said my last bid. He said no, I walked away. Last I heard he sold it to another guy on this site :) I was just happy to hear it didnt get scrapped... auctioneer had no idea what he was doing.. It wasnt my job to teach him.. I bought a two bottom trip plow for 5.00, an antique dirt scoop scraper for 5.00 ,and two land rollers for 5.00 apeice. He didnt know what they were let alone what they were worth.

Was at a charity gun auction and watched the auction spotter scream out a ghost bidder and got the bid up a good $1,200 -$1,500. One of these sit down deals and the guy doing the real bidding was watching auctioneer vs. the spotter. He dropped out at $2,200....Auctioneer yelled sold to the ghost bidder. AND then went over and told the guy they had another gun exactly like it and would offer to him at his last bid. Poor guy agreed. I tried to catch up with him to let him know but it was packed room and couldn't get over to him......I walked out after that, never went back and still have a sour taste for the Charity that was sponsoring.

Yes its crazy what things can bring. There is a JD auction also, and a pack of unused 1960's oil cans went for $1300 the other day. There was a 2510 precision toy with no box, ran up around $160, when there are some on eBay with Buy It Now prices well below $100.

Ive sold on there a while now. Ive had nothing but good experience. The guys that run it seem to have a limited tolerance for drama, and that's good. the only time Ive seen them upset is when people try to deal outside of the listing or on the side. Ive not personally ran into any problems on the items Ive bought there either. I like what they've done, and the prices seem to do well, and Ive yet to run into someone not following thru on paying.

Where U find it is where u buy it many cases ,like any thing else if you do not look other places u do not know what is out there . So when something sells for real good price its a CRIME !!! all the sudden ,and when u feel u did not get enough for what u sell ,maybe u did not try to sell anywhere else or do some home work on it . Some times when someone is in my showroom they ask ,WOW where did u ever find something like that ,I never seen one. U are lucky to have that . I say NO when I seen it , I liked it so I bought it .Luck did not buy it for me . If u do not pay u do not get. Everyone has things they like and some one else dose not like it .They do not have to like it ,it's not theirs. |

I agree with that, I sold a moisture tester on there for 500. And 1 sold the week before for 130 on ebay. The people that bid on that site , don't seem to know what things normally bring. They see it , and they are going to buy it.

A couple weeks ago I posted "It's all my fault" about a buddy buying an Oliver 88 in MN for $3000. Since then he has been in touch with the seller and picked up the tractor yesterday. First off the seller told him he was charging $50 per week starting the day after the auction. Ron told him that according to the Big Iron rules he could only charge $25 after two weeks. Seller said "I don't care, $50." Ron bought a better pickup to haul the tractor, I don't think that's my fault, by the way, and left for MN on Monday. Picked up the tractor, of course the battery was dead. The seller at first said "Not my problem." but then hooked up a battery charger. The tractor is so wide that it barely fit on the trailer and the seller didn't help load it or offer to help narrow the wheels, but as Ron was winching it on came out and said come in the shop. Ron went in the shop. The seller was sitting in a chair with a bunch of manuals for the tractor on his lap. He was near tears, pissed that the tractor sold so cheap. Ron apologized to him for the way things went but told him he bid on it in good faith and had no idea if he would get it with his last bid. The seller admitted it wasn't Ron's fault but told him he had put hundreds of hours and dollars into the tractor and regretted putting it on the auction. Ron is a retired ER Doc and told me he was concerned for the seller as he is very overweight and doesn't look healthy for a mid 70's man. He gave him the books and told him he better get on the road before the storm arrives. Ron finished chaining down and left.
Now I'm really feeling bad that I even mentioned the auction, but I guess if Ron hadn't bid on the tractor it might have sold for even less. A few years ago I bought my 8030 at a friends auction and was going to quit bidding when Ron told me he would put a $1000 in toward it (he was still working then). I offered to pay him back but he wouldn't accept it. Maybe I'll try to talk him into sending the Oliver seller the money. Always appreciate feedback from you all. John, the guy put the Oliver in an auction of his own free will.Old enough to know that there's no guarantee at auctions.Where was his reserve? Not allowed? His action had consequenses. No responsibility of Ron's or yours.Things are what they are.Let it ride.
