I have to agree with Charlie.  My C will not pull a full size sled without a lot of weight.

Yes, I believe that to.

I was looking on youtube on the term "Allis Chalmers pulling" saw many types but not a G. So I was curious if anyone did it before. I think that the skinny frame of a G will twist as a screw.

There are two Gs that pull with our club in the 1500 and 2000 pound classes. The other tractors in the class are all Farmall Cubs. The Gs with their creeper first gears and 30" tires do real well, with one that will be class champion this year. We pull them on our smaller garden tractor/ATV sled and also on our big sled with training wheels.

I pulled mine once, '98 or '99. It was a wood boat if I remember right. Three classes, antique, farm stock, and modified, don't know why but they put my '48 G in farm stock. They scored by proportion. They used 500 lb. blocks of concrete.
I didn't do very well for 2 reasons. First because just as I went up to hook on I got a slug of junk in the gas line and I had to hold the choke on, spring loaded, to keep it running.
I pulled the empty sled OK. But when they added 500 pounds of weight that stopped me. I would think it would be better for the lighter tractors to have lighter blocks of weights, 500 pounds is a lot to add at once for a small tractor.

Maybe I'll get a chance try it again someday.

If I was going to try to pull much weight with one of my G's I would fasten the drawbar some other way than to the block. I have one block that is broke out in the bolt holes. I have seen pictures of other people that had blocks broken out where the drawbar frame bolts to the block. I wouldn't use creeper gear to pull a heavy load. One of my G's had the teeth stripped off the small gear out front for creeper when I bought it. Not near as heavy of a gear as the ones inside the transmission.

At our fall tractor pull for our club we have the "cub" pull, in which we also allow the G, MH Pony, and JD L and LA. We use our old stocne boat with no concrete weights and get kids from the crowd to step on the sled....they seem to have a good time doing it.....

As a youngster at the Wabash County Fair (Indiana), I saw a G as the first to pull.  The pull lasted about 2 seconds when something snapped and it had to be pushed away.

I would love to see a pull where it's just G's. Of course i would have to give mine a good overhaul since it is tired and just plain wore out.

There are a couple concerns about pulling a G; no center bearing supporting the N62 crankshaft; and as already pointed out creeper low gear shaft is not supported properly (no bearing on outer end of shaft) for heavy loads (book states creeper low is for speed control only).  Another concern, already pointed out, is where does one hook up for heavy loads (the drawbar saddle that supports the rear end of the drawbar can break out the bolt holes in the block if too heavily loaded in a vertical direction). Have never seen any G's pull, but not surprised to hear of their holding their own (as most of their weight is on the rear wheels). Herb

I would think that using what Allis called Special Low, the G would spin out. I also would think that using a long chain to hook to the boat would take a lot of stress off the castings where the draw bar bail bolts on.

You would also be prone to breaking axles on the G. Last I knew they were very expensive.

I broke an axel. It shattered not twisted into. It seems to me that they flex while working and over time work harden then break.

Dusty

I should add that I was plowing when I broke the axel.

The G may break an axle under heavy load because the torque on the axle is larger than the torque on the final drive pinion on a B due to the power first passing through the reduction gears in the clutch housing.  I believe the torque is larger fom the 10 hp G engine than the torque from a B engine.  Ax AC mechanic warned me about this.

8 more hp than a G with 2 less cylinders, but weighs a little more. You can see how far I made it, not enough front end weight! I have no idea how much weight they had in the sled though.

Guy pulls with us once in a while pulls with a G in the 15 and 2000 classes. He has a different hitch set up the mounts to where mid mounted implements would, then is supported by the original hitch. He has out pulled a B several times in the 2000 class before on transfer sled. I have a feeling he's modified a few things in the tranny though. Our sled has several gears, it's a huge sled, but in the lightest gear a 4x4 Polaris Ranger will move it fairly easily.

The two guys that pull them in our club have modified draw bars attached up under the middle of the tractor. Neither puller is an A-C guy & I warned them about the unsupported creeper gear and I think one guy possibly wounded his at the last pull. But they DO pull!!
