I just moved up and am doing very well in the 5000lb class, and not too bad the few times I tried the 5500lb class.
There are no other's in these classes, and this tractor has been outpulling a few Deere A's, B's, and Oliver super 77's. Any other Allis's pulling in these classes? |

We have been hooking in the 5500 and a few 5800 lbs. classes. The thing you'll find is that you'll be pulling against 88s, 450s and sometimes stripped 560. 400 Case , A and G Deeres. In other words alot bigger tractors. The only advantage you have is that you'll be able to move weight around better than them but you can't out HP them.

I used to run my WC from 3500-6500. The more I put on the better it did. GOt tired of moving that much around so I go 3500 & 4500 now

Subscribing to this thread - I have the same question for my wd45. Our local fair has only a 5500lb class and I am wondering how I will do pulling against some 6 cylinder olivers and farmall's.

Alot of tracks around central PA I've been noticing rules this year of not allowing WD45's below 5000lbs....I think the green and red guys got tired of getting spanked in the lighter classes so they just set rules to keep us out.

Ive pulled my wc up to 5500 but the farmall guys around here must all have 80 plus horsepower im lucky if i get in the top ten in 5500

Around here they start at 5000 and I`m not loading my light weights down that much. Little Pink Tractor only weighs 2150 and the WC weighs in at 3150.

You all still using the hand clutch??? I have heard it will slip under severe pulling. I was thinking of going to 16.9's, I had a set of 18.4x26's and it slipped the hand clutch, I took them off and removed shims from the hand clutch, per service manual, put the small tires back on. All pulls have been rain outs since motor mod's, I know I need more tire, but didn't know if the clutch would handle it...

I'm pulling 5000 Farm stock at the fair in 2 weeks with my D17, should be a few 45's there plus some Ford Turbo SU's.... I didn't do too good last year so I will see what happens this year.

We aren't allowed to run 16.9's, but when I pulled a few months ago, I had my hand clutch pop out on me for the first time.
I fixed that, and actually cut off the handle, so that in the event something happens, that handle is not in the way of trying to escape the tractor. |

Our WD45 weighs in at ~6200#s with me onboard. She stays weighted just as she was in her working days. We don't add or remove for pulls-just like to listen to her grunt for our enjoyment. She has had 16.9s as long as I've been around(41 years) and her last overhaul was just as many years ago too. I've missed the local pulls for a few years now so am unsure what classes they now run. Used to be 1000# increments but at the half marks(ie-5500,6500,7500). At 6200#, we had to pull in 6500# class. The old girl never complained. She actually ran quite well and ALWAYS spun out pretty much still running at full power maybe minus a few RPMs-never had her slip her hand clutch either. That being said, Dad did like to tell a story of her last overhaul including clutches. Fresh from the shop just in time for the County Fair, he felt like showing her off so he entered her in the pulls of course. He was last to pull in the class and had already whooped everyone elses mark except the lead when he started to smell clutch. Unsure of which clutch was slipping but freshly aware of the cost of both, he threw in the hand clutch less than 1' from the mark left by the lead-one badass JD A. Sometimes he regrets this but then again both clutches went on to last the rest of our farming days-about 20 more years. After the farm was sold, we did end up putting in a new foot clutch assembly but the hand clutch in it today dates back to that last overhaul now 40 years ago. |

pull both of my 45 diesels in the 5000-5500 class.one has 16.9 tires about half worn out and does quite well.the other tractor has 14.9 tires,brand new firestone field and farm,wont do as good as the worn 16.9 field and farm.my biggest fear at these pulls are the coop and the cockshutts.those were a very good pulling machine...

I went to the antique tractor pull at the local county fair this weekend just as a spectator, and was mildly disappointed. There were only 2 Allises there; a beautifully restored but bone stock WC, and a WD 45 that had to scratch because he couldn't even get the sled moving without bringing the front end clear up in the air. The WC was the lightest tractor there by far, and unfortunately came in last of 5 in his class. But he was supposed to be in a class of "stock tractors" and I am quite certain there wasn't a stock one in the bunch except for him. It did get me thinking about taking 2 or 3 of mine over there next year. They have to be 1965 or older, so I think my one-ninety XT diesel would qualify (got to double check the serial number, but I think it's a 65). Any ideas what it would weigh? I think it could kick some butt and be just as "stock" as most everyone else was, even though I think it must be in the 115 to 120 HP range. Some of my other possibilities to take would be my D 19, D 17, or my D15. I'll have to do some checking on what their weight classes are and what each of my tractors weigh and go from there. As the time draws near, I'll probably be asking for advice on here, as I have never pulled before and will need some pointers from the pros. Darrel

Back before pulling got to be full of cheaters, I can;t think of another word for them, I used to clean up with my D17 in the 6,500# and 7,500# classes at our local pull. The class was supposed to be stock but after a while the losers from the hopped up classes would show up with their stock tires on and called themselves stock. I still whipped most but the club just let the rules slip more and more every year. Four years in a row my rusty oily bone stock D17 would take first in those classes and it was fun for a while. I had guys checking my drawbar, my engine RPM and once I was challenged right when they unhooked me to go over to a dyno someone had at a local pull. It wasn't required to check HP but I think the green boys were very upset that a little rusty D17 was waxing their horsed up A, G, and 720 tractors.
One thing I always made sure after a while was that I pulled on black dirt or clay tracks with lots of bite. That D17 just wouldn't give any RPM up on hard pulling tracks unlike the Deere two bangers which would fall on their face. Sure they would run slow but they didn't go far. I'm not sure today how they pull with all the dollars they dump in them. I know money is being spent when I see a Farmsmall H fly down the track like they do today. That was unheard of years ago.

you are right lonn,take them out of the field and pull them.i have seen several farmall h tractors that were not stock and the engines sounded like a swarm of honey bees.but i still cringe when i see an e-3 e-4 coop in my class.have you pulled aginst any of them?there are 2 or 3 here in texas and they are good...

last time i hooked 6000 with my wd we went 259 feet in second gear before the number 3 rod locked the engine down

I have a Coop E3. I do not tractor pull with it. What makes them so good? Is it because they have 8 gears and soup up the engine? My buda 4 cyl runs nice, but I would say my WD is a better motor.

Nope. I have seen them pull some years ago in a club south of me. None in my area back when I pulled in the 1990's. They are strong pullers with that Buda 6 cylinder. Not sure what model they were but there were 3 or 4 of them flying down the track at really high rpm. They cleaned up in their weight classes.
