I was wondering if there are any 4x4 or mfwd Allis Chalmers tractors that parts are readily available and easy to find.  I know the 5020 sure ain't!

I'm not worried about getting going, but rather stopping.  With the wd-45 I had, I would be coming down the steep upper pasture road and if it was wet both rear tires would just lock up and I'd start sliding down the hill.  I had to hit the emergency brake to stop.(drop the loader bucket).  The 7ft bucket on the front stopped me in a hurry...lol

My tires were new on the allis and I had bear paw chains on it...road rougher than heck, but never got really stuck.

Just cause it's orange don't make it a tractor, there's only one..Allis Chalmers

I have 2wd's so I can't comment on the MFWD portion but have had good luck with the 6000 series and parts.

I think your problem with the 5020 is it's a small import. You might try to find something more domestic. Of course, the 6000 series is kind of an import too, so that limits you to the 8000 series for a more domestic MFWD.
Or just get a Ford 800/801 series with the Elenco FWD. Lol

Front axle on an 8000 series fwa is a SIGE which I think is from Italy so not totally domestic.

If you use your logic all mfwd Allis's would be eliminated. Matter of fact most compact tractors have some foreign influence no matter what brand.

I bought my first 6080 18 years ago and my second 12 years ago and racked up a crap ton of hours they are a very reliable tractor. The motor is one of the best Allis ever offered.

I meant a 5000 series is nearly 100% a Japanese tractor. The other tractors Allis made have more domestic parts than the 5000 series, and that's what I was getting at about it may be easier to find parts for the larger ones.
I've heard a lot of good things about the 6000 series and up, as well as the 5000 series, it's just finding parts for an older imported tractor is hard, according to the folks that have them. I agree, there isn't much wrong with a 6080, and the 6000 series are great all-around tractors. I guess you're right about all the FWD axles being imports. You are also right, nearly all compact tractors have foreign influence, and I've been told everything JD makes that is smaller than the 9000 series is made overseas. I know the smaller ones like the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 series are, but I don't know about the rest.

not the good news I was looking for.  Maybe I'll get a backhoe, so I can use it as an anchor if I start to slide down the hill..Smile  ok with the 4x4 debate being settled is there a model that has better braking or one that the engine will hold it back,  the wd45 brakes just locked up and the engine wouldn't hold it back.

I really have no interest in getting a "newer" machine (to expensive) and would prefer to stay with an allis.  Even if I can get a 2wd model to use most of the time, eliminating having to solely rely on the 5020.

My poor 5020 has dug out the stumps and cleared the brush for 6 acres that use to be all woods to expand our pasture.  It has done all the excavating for our house to be put in and is in the process of digging into the hill side to make a less steep road on our hill side. got about 100yds of the road cut into the road probly almost 1/3rd done with the road, it has hauled all the shale as well.  In case your wonder, it is a pain in the ..... to dig stumps with a loader.  It is also a bit spooky digging a road on a hill side, until ya get a level spot started...at least it's only a 40ft drop if I fall off the hill....lol

Every tractor under 100hp of all colors have been made over seas for years . I am thinking back in the 80's there was an article l read stating that.

Maybe renting a new Bobcat / skidloader on tracks with a bucket with teeth may help you more,,, those things are super fast in hydraulics and can do a ton of work in a short time ;; not bashing at all , but an experienced operator could make it all happen fast

Sounds like a 5050 4WD would be just what you need and Import Tractor in Canada has
about any part including front end parts you'd ever need at very reasonable prices. Also lots of parts on ebay. You can see my Oliver 1365
4WD which is a 4 cylinder version of the 3 cylinder 5050.Matter of fact I have a Long 460
which is the 3 cylinder version of that era Fiat although its 2WD.

I have dreamed of a 5050.  A friends of a friend bought one sight unseen from montana I think and he loved It,  I seen him cutting my friends fields, when he left for lunch I thought about hooking up the trailer and taking the 5050 to my place..ya know just to try it out...lol

I've seen the long's in 4wd, I seen a ford 800 style tractor in 4x4 for sale and didn't even think they made them that way. until this post.  I always thought if I couldn't have an Allis it'd be an Oliver.  like the looks and everybody I new that had them loved em.

I havn't been around tractors until I started farming about 20+ years ago, my family thought I was nuts (probly right).  So I don't know a lot about em, just what I've picked up through the years.

I don't mind the tractor being an import, just wish parts were a bit more plenty full.  Thanks to all who have responded and thanks to those who have given me a lead on parts for the 5020.  Looks like I'm gonna be making a trip to get the steering pinion, my fix didn't last.  got a bale in to the cows, that's was the main thing that needed done.  Thanks again for helping with an orphaned Allis tractor...Smile

Just tell the wife how much smoother you will fix the driveway and after about a thousand times she will sign the check for you. Before I got a cab tractor I always made sure she was near me when I Blowed my nose after baling hay or any dusty job! Didn't take long till she sugested I get a cab tractor. BINGO I'm sure most of the guys on here could help with ideas that work as well. Scott
PS let's keep this a secret! ok

SmileSmile.  Back when we still baled hay, she would probly let me buy an Abrams tank if I would just stop baling hay...lol  she hated it.  The first year I baled she came down to the field in shorts and a tank top...I chuckled, you wearing that...she said it's hot out....after about 5 bales she went in the house to take a shower and change....maybe I'll tell her if I can't get another tractor were gonna start baling hay again...LOL
