 Topic: Allis Tug

Got a call this weekend from a guy that things he has a small Allis tug. For those of you that have one or have seen one whats the best way to identify them? Do they have a data plate somewhere? We're supposed to get together next week to take a look at it. Any info to help identify whether its an Allis would be appreciated! From what he described it sounds like it may be one like this:

James,
I worked for North Central Airlines in the mid-sixties as a station agent (ramp rat) at O'Hare, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. I do remember some of the older tugs pulling baggage carts were AC and probably bought as war surplus. I think they had a continental four cylinder flat head. I could be wrong on that its been over 60 years ago and the memory has faded some. At that time they also had some Clark tugs as well but they were quite a bit newer. I can't help you on the ID tag location, wish I could.

I think the tugs are a Buda product and the ones that I have seen have the 153 cu.in engine which is the four cylinder version of the 230 cu.in. 6 cylinder.

Clark made a whole lotta aircraft tugs, and if you look really close, you'll see that tugs sit on a platform that is surprisingly similar to a forklift... and that's NOT a coincedence.
This is clearly a Buda engine... I'd bet my lunch-money that if one were to compare it to AC forklifts matching it's vintage, that it's probably the same platform, just with the operating station reversed, a few controls changes, and of course, no hydraulics.

I think my neighbor has one of those, looks the same. he wanted to know if I wanted it and I said no....at the time! gonna check to see if he still has it!

I have an Allis tug identical to that one. Mine is a model TG-24. Mine does have the G153 engine with a s/n tag behind the distributor with an Allis charmers serial number. It also has a plate riveted under the dash that says Allis charmers and gives the model ans serial numbers. They were built at the Buda plant in Harvey, Il. I have a piece of literature from Allis that shows the different models of tugs that they produced with the specifications. PM me with your address and I will copy it and send to you.

man that's cute ! If I can say that word......
hmm..G153, same engine as my Cockshutt 30 donor has. Now if you want a REAL challenge swap the D(iesel)153 from my A-C forklift,rebuild then install into the tug.
yup, wife would NOT be happy seeing the tug show up...but it is nice....

That's Bob Vanderploegs Tug. Found for him in LA Ca. area. Was being used by some circus event group down there. $500.00 not a bad deal . That thing down right flies!!!
