hello everybody i have a question and i hope somebody can give me some help.i was using my d14 today to do some rototilling and then the pto seemed to grind alittle so i went to disengage the pto the lever felt funny. so i shut down the machine and tried the lever again and now the lever just flops around like it is not hooked to anything. does anybody know what has happened and is it going to be a easy fix

Pin proably come out of shaft inside . Can drain oil and take off side plate and get to it . It will be tight work.

I don't know about a D14 but I once pulled a 185 shifting collar out through the side plate. It was awfully tight.

D14 probably had a roll pin in it and it has sheared off. Drain out the oil ( plug takes 1 1/8" wrench located directly under the clutch pedal pivot pin pointing down at a 45 degree angle) and then remove the RH side cover where the hand clutch lever is. Use a magnet to fish around inside and get all the pieces. Replace the roll pin with a 5/16" bolt and locknut using one wrench and an air ratchet thru the side cover hole. Very doable if you have an air ratchet.

thanks for the info guys i was thinking it was the roll pin that sheared off. my other question is if i pull off the side plate with the hand clutch do i have to worry about anything coming apart. or is pretty straight foward a shifting fork.

Here are a few photos of my D-17. 1st pic is open side cover.Shaft is straight ahead in middle.
Here is the roll pin I fished out of the bottom.
Here is the shaft with a bolt and safety nut on it in place of roll pin.
Dr Allis and others helped me when this happened to me.Hope that is all it is.If I can do it anyone can.Small hands are helpful.I got my fat thick plumber hands in there and got mine fixed.hope the D-14 is not much smaller.

when i pull of the cover for the hand clutch do i need to be extra carefull pulling it apart or is pretty straight foward.

Pretty straight forward,just need to drain first.Plug below foot clutch, at least on the D-17 thats where it is.

i just want to say thank you to pat for supplying me the pictures of the pto shifting pieces. i just have one quick question before i attempt it this weekend. if i drive the shift shaft out of the shift fork will the fork drop or will it stay in place. also worries about the detent ball popping out.

Possibly. If the PTO is out of gear, position your lever straight up and that should allow the holes to be lined up for installation of a bolt/nut. Might be helpful to have another person there to help while your hands are inside.

I believe there is an oring seal on the pto lever shaft, might want to replace it while there if it is leaking. Mine seeps a little, was going to replace it when I had the tractor apart but a 4 lb hammer couldn't move the solid pin in mine so it still seeps.
