Pulled a 24 foot 490 IH in black and clay hill ground with a 1066 IH for ten years on stalks and plowed ground. Duals, weights and fluid.  Never had power or traction problems. It was tuned up to about 150 HP.

I always left a wing disk folded up for first time disking corn stalks, then in the spring unfolded for disking the seed bed.

Did it do a good job of turning corn stalks? I think I would mostly use it on bean stubble so it should be a problem

You can't disk with the wings up on that disk. The transport tires will hit the wing frame.

Well Im in Ontario hes in Illinois.  discs here are crazy expensive. Sometimes you gotta make do I guess.

I asked on Agtalk and they didn't say they are a bad disc. One fellow even said he would rather use a 2500 allis chalmers than a 496 case

I have an AC center fold disk, an IH 470 manuel fold wing disk, and a 496 hyd fold wing disk. they all do great, and all pull easier than the jd disk dad had. they also do a better job than that green disk ever thought of! IH disks never did have good scapers, and now the scraper mounts are worse than the older disks had. my AC disk never had any problems with the scrapers. and it flexs good on uneven ground better than IH disks. and of course you can't disk with a center fold, folded up! but it has big blades and does a real good job of cutting and deep tillage. in order for deeper tillage with the IH disks, that's when I would carry the wings folded for more weight.

I wouldn't be scared of the disk nick. They are a great disk. The way my 7040 and 7080 are weighted they are within a couple hundred lbs. THe 7040 may pull it a gear slower. If you take a couple blades off you will be right where everyone says you should be. The wing wheels can be mounted on the inside of the wing so you don't leave a wheel track. Idk what your budget is but I doubt you'll find a 20-22' for that price as there are a lot a people in your position. With a Lil work you would have a great disk at a good price.

Not long ago someone posted pics of a decent CIH disc on Agtalk that sold for like $1100.   Pretty sure if you ask on Agtalk what's your best disc for $3000 not many would say Allis. Not sure why your hung up on this disc? I live in northern Michigan my disc came from central Kansas. Dealer backed it on my trailer and the F250 drug it home. Once it's on a trailer and chained down half the battles over. Heck I towed my 31 foot finisher 300 plus miles home.

If you go look at discs in Ontario for less than $4000  You dont come up with many discs. I will not buy a John Deere 220 or any other Deere disk for that matter.  If this one works half decent Im happy. It only has to do 75 acres 2 times over in the spring, until I pickup more land. So I can always re blade it as I get the money to do so. I will drive within 150-200 kms To find one but not over the border.

Could you take one disk blade off each end and put a spacer there instead? Or if you have 4 bad blades cut them down with the blue wrench and you would do no machine work or finding of  some sort of spacers.
That would narrow it down to pull (a little) easier and save you from getting the bad or missing blades.

The Allis 2500 series Disks, were the best kept secret in AG. We had several, I would take these over anything, except for maybe a Sunflower.

Nick that was me that said I'd rather have the 2500. Actually the best disk I was around from that time frame was a ta 21 sunflower. But those aren't real common and don't see many for sale. If if the bearings aren't shot on the allis 2500 and the blades are decent I'd personally go for it. You dont have to polish the spools with it and if your only going over 70 acres, I think a guy could get buy for a season or two. Just my opinion.

Definitely stay away from the Deere 220. Had one and hated it. I remember leaving a good blood trail after messing with the scrapers. Keep looking spring is along way away and grain is cheap it's a buyers market.   Neighbor had 2500 he copied the caster wheels on my Sunflower.
