I have a Alllis Chalmers 190xt diesel tractor (not sure on the year), but I got a whole new starter and solenoid and put it on the tractor and I can get it to start but the tractor will not turn off now, even after I push the fuel injector pump to the close position and turn off the key. It acts like it is bypassing the key switch and injector pump. I would really like to fix this so I don't have to pay to have it taken somewhere. Thanks!

Does the fuel shutoff cable move the lever on the injection pump? Key switch should have no effect on shutting the motor off as this tractor does not have an electric fuel shutoff on the pump.

Usually but when we tried it earlier it had a lot of slack in it so we engaged it by hand and then released it for it to turn off and it wasn't turning off, we got it to turn off eventually by revving the engine and idling it back down quickly. Not the best way but it is the only way we got it to shut off.

Could the starter be somehow wired up wrong it has three wires on it

Starter has nothing to do with it. The shutoff cable is not adjusted correctly.

It's a mechanically injected diesel t dosent require and electricity to run once started. If you can't get it to shutoff with the cable plug the intake to stop it. All our military equipment has a emergency stop in the intake. It's a spring loaded plate that shuts off the air you can do the same thing with a wadded up rag just stop the air and it'll quit.

how do i adjust the cable then if that is the problem?

It is frustrating because I have been trying to fix this tractor for the past two weeks and the one person who could help isn't able to anymore due to health problems

Also I have been trying to figure out what year of tractor it is, I know it is not a series III

Need the serial number for the year of the machine. Look on the oil filter side of the engine, right where the torque tube bolts up. There will be numbers stamped on the side. 23000 and up would be a series 3.

You have a 1967.  Not positive on the series though.  Either one or two.

Here is a picture of the injector pump in the off position.  The arm on the outside is your on/off switch.  Pull the cable out of the dash and that arm will move towards the back of the tractor, it will start and run in this position.  You might want to see that the arm is attached tightly to the pump housing - that could be why you are having difficulty.

If you don't already have one, get a manual too!

Thank you very much, I think it might be a series 2 because it has the grill bars on the grill and also it has a air intake coming out of the hood as well.

That serial number is late series I. The pre cleaner is an option on all models.
To adjust the shutoff, I would push the knob in, loosen the clamp on the cable jacket, move the lever all the way forward, tighten the clamp on the cable.

I now have another problem I think, usually when I turn the key on the oil pressure light comes on and then goes off but now when I turn the key it doesn't turn on, could the bulb be bad?

Theres a bump out oil passage that runs along the block , and should be a sender unit about the middle of the block - and hopefully a wire hanging there

Either test it for continuity with a Multi Meter, or, clamp two little wires to a battery, and touch 1 each to the ground and hot contact of the bulb.  A good bulb shows continuity, and lights up with voltage applied.
