I cannot find a timing mark on the flywheel. I don't seem to see an inspection plate either.. I took the plate at the bottom of the flywheel off and rotated engine, but I cannot find a timing mark. I assume I am doing something wrong. Please somebody help me. Rhesa McKnight

They are there, you may need to wipe the flywheel clean with some brake-clean and a rag to see them.

This is easy on a WD-45. Remove the clutch housing cover complete from underneath the flywheel. Rotate the engine until the crankshaft pulley setscrew is pointed exactly straight down. If you do this, the TDC Mark will be right there on the bottom edge of the flywheel. It's probably covered in rust and will need cleaning. There are two marks: TDC and "F" or "FIRE" which is 30 degrees BTDC. A properly timed engine is the FIRE Mark at wide open throttle.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Even cleaned up they are hard to see. Mark the FIRE line with white paint or something so it's visable when viewing with timing light. If it has M&W's it might be closer to 25Deg advanced. They were higher compression and detonate at 30.
