I have a B and just got a new sickle mower which I mounted but the pulley for the mower and the PTO pulley are off by about 4 inches. The PTO on my tractor has a collar that is 3 inches in diameter by 3 and one half inches long and then the PTO shaft is after that. So when I put the pulley on I am about 4 inches too far back. My question is do I have the wrong pulley or is there a way to take the PTO collar off in an effort to shorten the shaft by that much? The collar and the PTO shaft are all one unit.

It sounds like someone put an overrunning pto clutch on your pto. If there are 2 setscrews or grease zirks on it, take them out and there should be a roll pin that you can drive out with a punch. Then the whole thing should slip off of the original pto shaft.

Eldon took the words right off my reply I was proof reading. It's a one piece thingie that fits over the pto shaft splines to allow a bushog to freewheel instead of shoving the tractor ahead when you push in the clutch. You don't use that thingie to run a sickle mower.

It is possible you have a 1 1/4 pto instead of an 1 3/8 pto shaft also. The 1 3/8 conversion would make it longer. If that is the case, you may need a different pulley for the tractor. I'm thinking Eldon and Ken may have the right answer though.

I had the same issue on my B when I mounted the IND SICKLE MOWER. The pulley was made for the 1 3/8 shaft and my B had a 1 1/8 shaft. I got an insert type adapter from my local farm equipment dealer that decreased the ID of the pulley when I installed it so it would fit the PTO shaft. I think the cost was about $6. If you need one and can't find it let me know. Stan

I should have said that when you remove the adapter that is on your tractor, you might have to change the ID of the pulley to fit the PTO shaft. Stan

Stan quick question are the two round stock / turn buckles something you made or are they factory? And what purpose do they serve?

For AC Wilk, the turnbuckles are AC factory equipment. A forum member was kind enough to sell them to me at a reasonable price. They are intended to add additional bracing to the drawbar and be adjustable as the need to tighten the belt the drive belt. I think they were the same on the B and C. ACGO part numbers are708021153 LH thread rod, 70802160 coupling nut, 70802152 RH thread rod. I don't know if they are still available but you might ask. They are listed with the parts for a B/C sickle mower. Let me know if you need any more information about them. Stan

I took out the grease screw and the set screw but there doesn't seem to be a pin. I tried pounding with a hammer and punch but nothing moves. Any ideas?

Some runover clutches have a spring loaded release on them that releases ball bearings from the groove on the pto shaft

I used a PTO coupler that used the ball and sliding collar type fastener to the PTO shaft once. When I tried to release the ball connector from the shaft, it would not release. I finally had to cut the connector off the shaft with a metal cutting saw. Hope your problem is not as difficult as mine.

It looks like I am going to have the same problem that you had in that I will have to cut the coupler off. Before I get the torch out, do you know how far back form the main tractor rear end I should cut so that i come close to the spot where the ball bearings are? My guess is that I should cut at the distance from the tractor where your corrent PTO shaft has the grove?
