It is a soybean plate. Corn plates are common, lots of diff sizes though. Lookup Marshall Machinery on ebay (new2youtractorparts) and ask them what they have available. They have a lot not listed and they are pretty good on pricing. They will probably be listing a bunch soon, now that planting season is just around the corner, it might be good to beat the crowd.

Those are John Deere plates that you have in the picture. Those white plastic inserts that go inside the plates are made to allow the use of John Deere plastic plates in an Allis-Chalmers planter. If you go to a place that sells seed corn, they probably have many different sizes of plates that they would give you for whatever corn you bought. There are many different plates for corn, there isn't just a "corn" plate. Most seed corn will list the suggested plate to use on the tags attached to the bag. I suggest that you use one size larger plate than is usually suggested for best results. Here is a video of my father planting corn with his two row AC planter. I can probably answer most questions you have about your planter. Also, here is link to Lincoln ag products that have all the different plates and the adapters to use the john deere plates in an AC planter. http://www.lincolnagproducts.com/

thanks for the info. DanD what sprockets should the chain be on? i'm just using it to plant my food plots (about 3 ac.). i set it as wide as i could 42" and am planing to plant a row in the middle of each pass to end up with 21" row spacing. Or is that a bad idea? also thought about dragging in some soybeans before i plant the corn. thanks . Troy

I have the option to buy one of these as well....the owner and I are trying to figure a price out...it looks about like what you started with. Does anyone have a price that would be fair to offer? I haven't seen any others around this part of Kansas and don't want to low ball too much although I don't want to overpay either.

cane. around central Ohio would suspect you will have to pony up $800 to 1200 if the fertilizer boxes are useable and row markers are in tact. its probably a given that the shoe is either marginal or not usable but that can be fabricated for another $150.00.

Well, if you don't have a manual you'll just have to play a little until it's putting out a seed at the spacing you want. On my father's planter, I believe he has the chain on the largest sprocket on the drive axle and smallest sprocket on the shaft that drives the planter plates. With 16 cell plates that gives one seed as you turn the press wheels about the distance from one spoke to the next. Just play with it and you'll get it close enough for your purposes. You may have different sized sprockets on your planter than what my father's planter has, too. I found this picture of my dad's planter and you can see the sprockets on the rear and which one he uses. I know he uses the smallest sprocket on the plate driven shaft which I think is either a 7 or 9 tooth sprocket. ![]() Edited by DanD - 24 Feb 2013 at 7:43am |

Here's my two row planter. I plant corn with the chain on the biggest back drive sprocket and the chain on the 7 tooth front driven sprocket it drops about 9" apart. In this shot I had it on the middle driven sprocket and it droped about 12" apart.

I have one of these AC 2 row planters. Anyone know where I can get the chain that drives the sprockets for two top buckets?
