 Topic: All Crop Wheel Bearing Setup

Hey All,
I am going to go pick up a 60 Allcrop tomorrow.
My plan is to take a set of good wheels and tires, swap them out, clean and put in fresh grease in the wheel "bearing." I do know that the wheel "bearing" is really just the axle shaft inside the machined hub, no real "bearing" to it. What I don't remember is what holds the lock collar on?
I don't want to be 150 miles from home, and not take the right tool. I have had many of them open to change wheels, but never had reason to take the hub off.
Any help would be appreciated!!

I picked up a 66 this summer. The wheels have straight brass bushings in them. You put the hub on, then the collar. Then a pin goes through the collar and axle. Then you put the hubcap on. The hubcap covers the pin, so it cant come out. Grease them thoroughly. Are you sure you have the correct rims? I took some six bolt implement rims along, and they were about 1/4" smaller in hub diameter. Luckily I was only 20 miles away, so I just took the rims off and brought them home and put tires on the rims.

The pin isn't threaded, or anything, only gravity holding it in while the cap is off?
I wasn't sure if it was a steel roll, or a recessed shoulder bolt, or something else.

If I remember right, the pin is horizontal. So its kind of floating and not rubbing on the inside of the hubcap much at all.

To bad it's not like the one my grandad had(now mine)...he ordered it with timken bearings, I even took the cap off and looked,, yep,, it has timken bearings with spoke wheels..

Now that I slept on it, maybe the pin has a shoulder on it. So it sits in the collar and the shoulder hits on the axle so gravity does hold it. Either way it's just a smooth pin....let us know....

No worries, I got it home today.
Found the bushings worn pretty badly, so cleaned them up, and packed them full of grease. Couldn't go over 30 MPH due to heating, no matter how often I stopped to add grease. Made for a long 120 miles, but it made it.
