    Posted: 05 Jul 2011 at 11:36pm

Hello All, i have been searching for and finally found a model 66 all crop its a bagger model with the auxiliary engine though the previous owner robbed the magneto off it for some other project however many years ago. so my (initial) question is what model of magneto am i looking for?

more info;

the combine has been parked out in a dry lake bed under a shed roof for so long that the building has settled to the piont of resting on top of the auger housing, the building then preceded to push the whole combine into the ground so that the whole combine is sitting flush at ground level. i have yet to try to remove the thing though i think a hilift jack should pick up the shed enough to get it pulled out cleanly. also i have been told that it ran perfectly when parked and the only thing missing is the magneto. the darn tires still seem to be holding air! and the drapers look usable at least what i can see of em.

anyway, if you all could help me out to getting it running i'd be grateful
thanks Justin

Most likely a Fairbanks  something like an FMJ 4B3.  I think it would have the B-125 engine..   -Wes

thanks Wes,
i puchased an all crop operators manual off of ebay that states the aux engine is the same as the one for a rotobaler, forage blower, and forage harvester, though sadly that is about as indepth as this book gets with the aux engine details cept for how to mount it.

The power unit on a 60 is basically a B-C-CA engine.  It would require a FMJ magneto.
Check with SteveNJ.  He is our resident electrical expert.
Let us know how it goes recovering the combine.  Sounds like an interesting situation.
Do you have pictures?
Good Luck!

i am a bit tech challenged though i will try to have my camera handy when i go to retreive it, maybe my son can upload some pics for me. and after looking at the pics in the book i have, i beleive that the fmj magneto that was suggested is an apropriate choice. i can see alot of shovel work in my future.

Sounds like me and my "free" four row front mount cultivator for a WD -45. I am still trying to chop it out of a mulberry tree. I bought a WD-45, mounted 9' disc, wagon, plow pieces, boxes of parts(ie gaskets, cylinders, etc), and a rear mount 4 row cultivator from a friend last fall. He said "you can have that front mount for free, but you got to cut it out of the tree". I have been taking pictures as I've chopped and hacked, but I still haven't got it done. I don't get much time to work on it with everything else that I have to do, and I still have at least a half a day to go, and then move a loader there to load it. I am probably into the second dozen sets of resharpened chains trying to unthread that rascal! I cut a teeny bit and BAM!! there goes another one. The family thinks I'm nuts, but now it's an honor thingy of not letting it beat me!!   Good Luck retrieving your combine!!!

lunabutte,I've got an FMJ mag if you're interested, and know of a good mag shop in your area. Mine doesn't click when you turn it, and I was told that the impulse was out on it. I'd take $40.00 for it, plus shipping. I'm in central OK.

i very well may be interested your magneto, though i hope you don't mind me holding off for a bit. i don't really want to start trying to buy parts for it just yet as i am not sure what condition it will be in after it comes out from under the shed. for all i know the shed'll crash down and smash the whole enchalada.

I understand completely, certainly agree with you, and wish you the best of luck with it. Be careful that the whole barn doesn't come down on top of you. Bad enough to lose the all=crop, but it can be replaced, YOU CAN'T!!!!

lunabutte, if it works out that you need the mag I've got, and you'd care to, my number is 405-714-2111. Call me if you need it. I'm going to stop this message from staying in my e-mail. Thanks, and once again, good luck with getting the all-crop out of the barn.

well, i finally made it out to have a go at removeing the combine from the shed.

please forgive my shoddy camera work as i remembered my jack but forgot my camera and had to use my phone.

this is what it looked like when i showed up

here is the truss sitting as square as it could on the top of the auger

and here is a pic of the tires being pushed into the ground by the shed itself

i'll put three more on the next post

as i began to lift the posts i realized that they were rotted off at the bottom instead of being pushed into the ground as i had hoped. this post wanted to crawl out to freedom and i had to tie it to the back of the shed to keep it from flying back at me. i did not expect this and had to scramble around and find a mostly rotted twine to save the day.

after i had it up pretty high i decided to give it a pull and see how close i was to getting out but i was still about eight inches short

i decided that i was not going to stress the timbers any more than i had already and busted out my shovel to dig a ditch to drop the tires in and i pulled the combine under the header and she looked like this

now i could breath a bit, i don't think it was over 80 degrees today and it really wasn't all that hard of work, but my nerves were on edge every minute crawling around this shed knowing it could come down on me at any time and i sweated like i never have in my whole life

i will go back some other time and get it pulled home. today was a good day.

Outstanding! Congrats! When you get into it a bit, will you post pics of the linkage between the engine and the AllCrop?

i was thinking it might be just as easy to convert this one into a PTO as well, but the motor sure seems to call out to me.

I might be interested in all the parts to convert over to the AUX engine, if either of you are interested in going to PTO

Yeah but how is that price of gasoline calling out to you? You would be Wasting HP and thus fuel by not using whats available from the tractor.

But nice job!  Looks like a decent machine!

i think right now, all it needs is a bit grease and a magneto, maybe some fuel and refill the radiator.

when i get it home if i find any tears in the drapers, i was wondering if these can be patched to get a guy by for a while? i was thinking that i could sew some jean patches but i dont know if it is doable.
i am headed out to go camping with AG royal ranger kids this morning, i hope it will be relaxing though the thought of camping with 15 5th grade boys sounds more like work than a relaxing campout.

Depends on what tractor you pull it with. If you have it behind a B, C, or RC there may not be enough ponys to run it and pull it in certain conditions. The engine also gives you live power if you are running it with say a WC or WF.

yeah a little grease and TLC is what I though our 66 was going to need.. Spent a couple days tinkering and decided to have the neighbors bring their JD4400 combine over to knock down the 8 acres of rye for us... We'll tinker more this winter and try again next summer...

Also my father in law had the same idea about getting the engine going on his because he does alot of fresh market specialty beans and grains.. (currently hand harvested and run through a cicoria)  He wanted to be able to get the cylinder speed perfect for the beans via the engine and just pull it with his tractor.. Of course I said he shouldn't have trouble PTO powering it with his Yanmar TK80 lol I think it has like 12 gears and 85 or 90 HP... should not have trouble finding a ground speed and RPM combo that works... :)
