I got this floating green clumpy algae going nuts on my pond. Last eve i applied a double the normal dose of copper sulfate and Diuron. This AM it looks like it flourished on the stuff over night. What chemical have you all had the best luck/results with? I also have dye in the water. Thanx.

Gotta give it a day or two. Grandson and I did moms pond, came back in a week, it's an hour+drive, and it was definitely sick.

Is that the same blue green algae we get in sloughs? We have it bad here, large bodies of water not much you can do, it is deadly to livestock, that is the voice of experience.

If it's duck weed, diquat will kill it. Duck weed is the little weed with three leaves. It spreads rapidly. If it's the mat stuff, I don't know. Diquat killed it but it just grew new on top of the old dead stuff. Google says Cutrine will control it, but I have never tried it. I guess I'll go buy some and give it a try.

i got the stuff on my pond a few years ago,,,,i have no idea why or where it came from,,,i kinda think the turtles migrating may have brought it from some other pond,,,,just my suspicions
i tried the copper sulfate stuff,,,,tried dosing the water,,,,nope,,,tried spraying it on the stuff from a pump up sprayer,,,,,,uuuuuhhhhhh kinda,,,,it would turn brown and in a few days it would come right back,,,,,worse in the dead of summer,,,problem with CS is it take the oxygen out of the water,,,and the dead stuff goes to the bottom to decay,,,,so you have to be careful how much you use the stuff or you could kill your fish,,,,pluss you are creating a lot of muck on the bottom,,,more than normal so i went to a fishery and they recommend getting some grass carp,,they eat it and the young ones are real hungry,,what the guy told me anyway,,,my pond is about 3.5 acres,,,,about 25 ft deep at the dam,,,,so they recommended i put in 12 grass carp about 10-12" long,,,so i did,,,,they grow to about 3-4' now they look like giant skimmers swimming around out there,,,,they did help,,,,but they didnt quite get it done so last summer it was getting bad again,,,so i got some aqua shade and dumped it in ,,,,water turned nice blue color,,,,in about a week,,,it was on the way out ,,,2 weeks was just about gone,,, this year it was coming back ,,,put the aqua shade in and it is almost all gone ,,,a little around the edges of the run off,,,but the carp need something to eat,,,,prolly 98% clear,,,it does have chemicals in it and it does make the water blue ,,,,,my guess is it keeps the sun filtered out so the crap cant grow,,,,plus the grass carp do help,,, it works for me,,,,, says you are central ill,,,im around bowlingreen mo,,,,,so prolly the same crap i get the aqua shade from farm and home,,,but tractor supply has it ...orchlens ,,,prolly most farm stores i put 2 gal in my water,,,,,,DO NOT GET IT ON YOU OR YOUR CLOTHS,,,,,it will be a permanent blue color,,,,,,i dont think it will hurt you,,,,just a stain,,,i pour it in in a few places around the edge,,,do the dock last so i can rinse out the bottles ,,,,thats my story works for me ocharry

Neighbor tried barley straw. Had a "pro" come in and do it. He claimed it was a waste.

Maybe the Pro had to much Barley Pop ahead of time and messed it up.
My lil sis had algae probs in her little Koi pond and Barley cleaned it up. Might have been a different algae, and the amount of Barley to water ratio may have had something to do with it to.

Check out Jones Fish. They have the most informative catalog out there. Shows the type of weed or algae with pics. Has the solution also. Take a look at them. HTH Tracy

Dave, they also have a link to find your pond size via satelite pics. Really handy on pond size or acres in a field. HTH Tracy

Many small bales wrapped with chicken wire works better than 1 big bale. it will need to be removed at the end of the season or it will mess up your pond, hence the need to wrap it in chicken wire. It's also to loop a good cable around it, so it can be pulled out with a tractor when needed.
